Awkward Silence*
Thread title is misspelled.

I usually have a tendency to say "So anyway, yeah" during silences to try and get the conversation going again.

Silence is spelled with an "E"

OT, I haven't ever really had one before that was caused by me, but one caused by someone I knew who started talking about blood and arteries while out at dinner while everyone was joking and laughing.

Total mood killer that topic is.

Have a new conversation topic on hand.

You can always just say "What're you up to?" if you are strapped for topics.

AWKWARD TURTLE SEX!

It went there.
I usually keep it simple with the awkward turtle.

When I do find myself in such a situation I usually just say "Well, shit, isn't that awkward?". Putting it out there seems to lighten the mood, or at least force people to acknowledge it, and move on.

I prefer not to. I like quiet, and find many peoples' clear attempts to stop the quiet awkward. My mom is the worst offender of this. Sometimes I think that quiet seriously disturbs her.

Pull out phone, play solitaire, wait for other party to leave or come up with subject more interesting than solitaire.

Every conversation I have with people, even online ones, tend to be really awkward. :(

"Right so then" is what I use to fill gaps if they become awkward but I don't suffer from that need to fill silences. People who do annoy me more often than not. If I had something to say I'd be saying it.

I'm a fan of silence, so I rarely ever think a period of silence is awkward. I can tell it is for the other person, but I like it.
