Probably. I assumed it was japanese because most games like that tend to be from japanese developers (also, japanese culture's love of baseball), but french would make sense too.

EDIT: And anyways, everyone knows smoke is the first element! I mean, what else would we breath without it? Jeez...
ha ha, you're right. Though I believe in the translation it actually lists everything as the first element, apart from Sugar, which is the secret 5th element.

Have you played the sequel, Home? It's up for download, but it's still in beta stages so I've been holding off until it's finished. Don't suppose you know if it's any good?

Prime World.

Really awesome game, been playing it for months now. Really interesting with some of the features of a russian game that no EU/NA developer would dare to put in ^^

Nope, not yet. Didn't even know there was one in development, but I definitely need to go check that out now.

It's being developed by someone else, with permission. I looks quite decent too. Download and info can be found here: http://thejudge.tumblr.com/

A bunch of games I didn't think to mention. For the Wii, we have:

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure, a wonderful point 'n click puzzle/adventure game with a really charming presentation and clever puzzles,

A Boy and His Blob, an excellent remake of the NES game by the same name. It's made by WayFoward, which should tip you off about the quality, and

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, a flight-sim game with plenty of customization and a decent story. Apparently, it's based of an anime.

And for the PS3, we have...

Resonance of Fate, an high quality JRPG from Tri-Ace involving gunplay and acrobatics, and...

Valkyria Chronicles, an awesome Strategy RPG with third-person shooter elements. It's not quite as obscure as most the examples, but it's too good to risk keeping you guys in the dark about it.

And finally, for its granddaddy, the PS1...

Strider 2, an arcade port that will make you feel like as much of a badass ninja as the protagonist,

Future Cop: L.A.P.D., which has you enforcing the law with a mech, and

Grandia, an amazing RPG with a unique battle system and a good story.

My favorite is Evidence The Last Ritual for the PC. Or just, the Evidence series in general. These are psychological horror at it's best, but very difficult to find.

Also I'll put Phantasmagoria on this list too. GOG has it very cheap, and even if it has aged, it's pretty awesome.

I would recommend checking out the Japanese indie RPG Off

Oh, and... Bubsy 3D: Bubsy visits the James Turrell Retrospective. Because you need it in your life.
I totally agree with this - OFF's a great game, so strange!

....WHYYYYY would you tell someone to play Bubsy 3D? That's like slicing through an eyeball with a razorblade. Or cramming dissection pins into your ears.

OT: While we're on the subject of RPGmaker games (I didn't know Crooked Man, Witch's House and Mad Father were still "unknown" at this point seeing as how they're the three that at least one Let's Player has covered on Youtube) where the heck is Ib? That's MY favourite RPGmaker game - a little old and it didn't get the same coverage as Ao Oni, but it was much better in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I'm not too aware of many (if any) AWESOME unknown games - sure, they're awesome to ME, but I don't know if they'd qualify as "general awesomeness" to the crowd.

Also... I LOVE Thomas Was Alone! That game's GREAT

Recognized a few off that list, including Thomas Was Alone, which is probably one of my favourite games. Adding to that list, To The Moon, which isnt that obscure, but it shouldnt be forgotten and on an entirely different note, a last-gen game called Sudeki which just came to mind. I remember liking it at the time, but in retrospect it may have been crap... :p

Seiken Densetsu 3 (Squaresoft)
Dino Crisis (Capcom)

I guess those are mid 90's games that were very formative for me, yet I still haven't met anyone who's played those.
SD3 had a great soundtrack and a unique RPG class system that I loved. Dino Crisis was just so mega epic and awesome, I have no idea why it's not a cult classic.. I dunno if it was just not marketed much in North America or something? IMO it was a billion times better than Resident Evil.

Well I believed among the other RPGMaker Horror games, Ib is the most well-known.
That why I didn't have it in a list.
Now I must play the game "Off", that for sure.

Dino Crisis? I don't think it is SO unknown among the other games I listed and from the other users.
Let me show you what I mean an unknown game:

In this game above you are a cute school girl trying to date a shy kawai T-rex to be your boyfriend.

Now THIS is pure gold XD

The Room: The Tribute Game?! If I had the means, I would track that down, just to ask a huge WTF!

I don't game on the PC, and the only obscure game I like is Act Raiser for SNES, and even then, lots of people know about it. I guess I'm too mainstream. :(

I didn't said only obscure games.
Just to not be so well-known to many people, that all.
