should game companies just stop all of the remakes they're doing, or do people actually eat this shit up? at least if your going to do a game like that have a concept like bioware had with "kotor" with the only thing the game having to do with "star wars" was the planets and the concept of the light saber.
but apparently they're making a new "highlander" game, a new "indiana jones" game to take after the new movie, (not to mention a lego indie game) and i wouldn't be suprised if they did a "back to the future" game sometime in the near future.

do you think most of the blame is with the kids, or do you think that people will buy anything that's familiar to them instead of taking a chance on something new?

Personally, I'd swallow a remake of Crystalis or Might & Magic 4 + 5 whole.

Not many other games I'd go for, though.

I think your complaints there are 'licensed titles' not 'remakes', however.

suppose it depends. Some classics would be cool with modern technology and physics. But its nice when a remake has differences from the original, cos otherwise you're basically just playing the same game. I think one of the complaints of the tomb raider remake was that lara was still stupidly hard to control, and the camera was a pile of wank.

But yeah it does seem like your beef is with licened titles such as games made from movies.

Some movies would make cool games. Back to the Future would be shite, its about a guy going forwards and backwards in time solving various quests, it'd be like an rpg sans the combat.
Knight rider could've been a cool game, but it wasn't. But it had knightrider on it and it was bought by feck loads of people. So they released a sequel... i played a demo of the first mind so maybe it was alright, but reviews and my playing experiance were low, so i stayed away.

I mostly avoid remakes like the plague, but after seeing a video of Bionic Commando: ReArmed I might have to alter that policy, but the OP seems to be talking more about licensed games based on ancient franchises, which I associate with Die Hard the Arcade in terms of quality. Enough said.

FFVII remake for PS3 would sell consoles, no matter what anyone says. Square Enix would be rolling in dough if they continued on from where the PS3 tech demo left off..

Meh. Golden Sun just wasn't that good,(And you can still find GBA copies I'm sure. If you can't send me an E-mail, I've got both of em) It felt wayyyyyyyy too much like a direct copy of Lunar with Pokemon elements tossed in. I wouldn't snatch up any remakes that come to mind (Including but not limited to, Rygar, Shinobi, and mebbe BionicCommando) but It's a sure dollar for whatever studio has to be developing them. Just because I won't buy them doesn't mean they won't support game studios with revenue and give critics something to pan in a hilariously attention-span-free manner. Take Working Designs' (R.I.P.) Playstation remake of the afore mentioned Saturn game, Lunar. W.D. did AMAZING things with that game (and others) even managing to make it MORE fun and Tecmo worked similar magic with Ninja Gaiden. What I'm trying to say is, like all things in the gaming world, wer'e gonna have to wade through the crap to get the gold.

If a game was great but old then whats the problem with remaking it so that younger generations can enjoy its greatness and the fans who liked it before can enjoy it with great graphics.

But ofcourse if the game was made recently or if it sucked then a remake is a stupid idea and should be sent back to hell from whence it came.

that kind of plays into the "are consoles killing innovation?" thread. it's not consoles that are killing innovation... it's the writers that are. we're never going to get anywhere... sorry... we're not going to get there as "fast" if the writers keep force feeding us these titles, but i guess most of the blame should be with the consumer. if they want to buy the 50th "zelda" game then whatever... but i kind of want to play "twilight princess" myself, so... maybe i'm just another consumer that wants the same premise
"sure zelda i'll save you!! no, it's okay... you don't have to give me any booty. maybe on my next adventure! yeah, it'll be great!!"
"sure princess peach i'll save you!! no, it;s okay... you don't have to give me any booty. maybe on my next adventure! yeah, it'll be great...
