So, looked over the thread a bit as I'm slightly interested in this as well... anyone got a suggestion for a JRPG on the PC (something more recent, my tolerance for outdated graphics and gameplay mechanics is not too high :\ )?
The Last Remnant - it's pretty good.

However for the PC there is a better choice - King's Bounty. It's not Japanese, it doesn't have the standard JRPG combat, but it's pretty much the king of turn-based RPG's.
Hmmm, King's Bounty looks suspiciously similar to Heroes of Might and Magic.
The original King's Bounty was created by the same guys who later made HoMM, it's the predecessor.

The new King's Bounty is essentially a remake with improved combat system and a new story (a.k.a not much of a remake). Essentially it's a HoMM RPG.

When I think of 'baby's first JRPG" I think of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

When I decide to be serious about it, I think of Chrono Trigger and Pokemon. So much has been said about those in this topic, though, so I won't talk about them.

I didn't, however, see any mention of Golden Sun. The games themselves are pretty basic aren't really outstanding, except for their graphics (seriously, the original was released fairly early in the GBA's life and it still looks better than most games on the system), but there's nothing substantially wrong with them either. They're very solidly put together and a good place to get acquainted with JRPG staples. Just don't expect a mind-blowing masterpiece, especially in the character department.

The Last Remnant's quite pretty and the combat's fun, but the story's rubbish. I couldn't really recommend it to anyone. Grandia 2 still holds up pretty well, but you don't really get JRPGs on PC much (unless you *ahem* resort to emulation).
