I know it really doesn't matter what people think as long as I like it, but is there seriously anything wrong with liking wrestling? I mean WWE, not real wrestling.

I used to love it as a kid and recently I've started watching it again. It seriously just seems a little odd to me that I am watching it again. I try no to talk about it due to it being sort of a thing for "undesirable" people in school but it's entertaining, and no worse than Jersey Shore or anything.

In the end, my question is this; why is wrestling so looked down upon?

Probably because it's not so much of a sport as it is a spectacle, what with commissioners deciding the outcomes of it.

Some people say it is silly, they are right. It is no more silly than most soap operas though.

It is a soap opera, aimed at young males, where you can occasionally go to see it live. Pro Wrestling is not my thing but I wouldn't look down on anyone for liking it either. Just enjoy what you enjoy.

It is like skins [http://www.e4.com/skins/] with bigger guns.

Well it is completely and utterly staged, so that's probably why it is looked down upon.
With that said, you still need some physical ability to be in the WWE. Not as much as a UFC fighter or anything, but you still need some.

I'm considering ordering Wrestlemania purely because I heard The Rock is gonna kick John Cena's ass.

Well obviously. If you can't see that, something is wrong or you're a little kid. Really though, most reality shows are staged beyond belief and people watch them without ridicule most of the time.

My friend has no shame in watching it so if he tells me something happens I'm interested in I'll watch the round up on skysports when it's on:)

Plus, The Rock is back and Stone Cold will be Special Refree at one of the Wrestlemania matches!

I've abandoned pro wrestling several times only to come crawling back every time :p

Obviously the main reason is that the general belief is that "Because it isn't real, it is only for children/idiots and not worth my time" and that the people who watch it believe it is real, and so should be looked down on for their ignorance. Everytime I've brought up wrestling infront of someone who doesn't watch it the first thing they say is "You do know its fake, right?", puzzled as to how I could be so ingrossed into an event that isn't really happening.

People just compare it to real sports, instead of taking it for what it is, a show, just like the circus or something. If they watched it like they would a soap opera, they would see it for what it truely is rather than a "fake sport". That covers the WWE; less emphasis on the wrestling, more on the stories, side of the business, anyway.

And I laughed at your Jersey Shore comment now that WWE and TNA are shamelessly trying to draw some attention by including people from Jersey Shore in their shows. XD

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. It's obviously just a ploy for more viewers. Especially since Snooki is in a 6 person tag team match at Wrestlemania.

Oh god don't remind me of that match. The only bad match on the card so far IMO. Why can't they just leave the Divas out and let Morrison and Ziggler put on an awesome match? :'(

Yeah, but the main event looks pretty decent. It's about time that we get a match like that. I just hope Stone Cold makes crap calls in Lawler's favor. Then after he's won, they both beat on Michael Cole for a while.

Which Main Event would that be? Cena vs Miz or Taker vs HHH? Both of them could be the Main Event right now, I'm leaning towards Cena/Miz, because it's likely to be the better wrestling match with Taker and Trips still a bit injured... Unless you're saying Cole vs Lawler will be the Main Event, in which case seeing Cole getting beaten the snot out of will be VERY entertaining :p

Cole Vs. Lawler is the official main event. Well, it's the last match. So I would consider that the main event.

Nothing wrong with wrestling. The ridiculous sports entertainment show however, is what it is: it's ridiculous, has nothing to do with sports and it's giving a bad and wrong image to actual sports that it partially mimics.

But people can like whatever the hell they want. It's also ridiculous to base the validity of your own likes and interests, to what other people think of it.

Really, I thought it was for a thousand other reasons >.> The fact that it's staged being the least of them

Your not alone, friend.
I'm a jaded Smart Mark, and it is so GOD DAMN hard to convince people to treat the sport with some respect. I once met a Japanese studies major at my local college who looked at me like I had horns on my head when I told him about how BIG pro wrestling was in Japan.
The man had never heard of Antonio Inoki before!
How the hell can you claim to be studying contemporary Japanese culture if you don't know what "Inoki BOM BA YE" means?
Vince's industry dominance was the worst thing to happen to wrestling.
Because anytime he does something STUPID, we all look bad!

Pro wrestling fans tend to have a complex about that...
Why?
Imagine if you took all the reasons comic book and science fiction fans feel marginalized and self conscious, and then added low culture stereotypes plus HOMOPHOBIA and GAY PANIC.
That's why, basically.
And this is why I drink!
(Not really)

Sorry, but I really don't think it'll be the last match, seeing as it features a man who can't even wrestle... It's a novelty match, one designed to have everyone see what they want to see, Michael Cole getting the beating of his life. If it is the main event ahead of Taker/HHH and Cena/Miz, I'll be very suprised...

It is Stunt Theater, which is perfectly fine. Sadly, there's only so much you can do with that, plot wise. Kinda like watching action flicks.

Used to enjoy it. Not seen it since Eddie died (followed by Benoit :( )
TNA, which i think is like WWE, came on the other day, and it was honestly terrible. I tried watching it with the same open mind but just...eugh. The story lines get worse and worse...apparently they milked Eddie's widdow into a story line aswell...as if the whole Mysterio's son not-being-his shit wasn't bad enough...
