So I, like pretty much everyone here, have fallen victim to machine's going berserk, and wiping or corrupting precious data, resulting in intense frustration.

Anyway, since then I have learned my lesson, and have become a "Back Up Whore", literally everytime I download something, reach a new level in a game, or something or the like, I have save or back up my files, sometimes I make multiples of the same file, because you can never be too safe.

So have I gone mad here, or do any of you share my fixation?

I don't, but it seems like you are taking this a bit too far. You should probably only be backing up once a week at most.

In games I do save quite a bit, but I very rarely backup my computer, since I have hard copies of all SOAD's cds, so I wouldn't lose anything important.

Steam backs up all my games to my account. <3

I do back up quite a bit of stuff beyond that, however.

Can't really claim to share your fixation, but I have developed the rule that, in video games, if you're not sure if you just saved, then you didn't.

I don't back up that often, but when I do back-up, I often do it on two sources.

I have an external hard drive I back up everything to, as well as a flash drive I back up all my save files, word documents and images to. Just in case.

I have the opposite problem. I never, ever get around to backing-up saves and downloads, and always end up beating myself every time my hardware blows up. And yet, I still never learn...

Having multiple save files is a glorious and wonderful thing. Just dont turn your system off whilst saving.

this.

i have yet to have these so called problems you have..i have yet to back up anything beyond save files in games, which im not a save whore but i do save when it is necessary, and its worked out quite well so far.

like someone mentioned, my steam games are saved there and i have hard copies of any OS stuff i need so....backing up isn't really a problem?

I just back up pictures and game saves every week or so, and some other files.

In terms of music and games, I own hard copies of everything or have the download registered to an account such as steam, so I can always retrieve it. That's the handy thing about not pirating.

I rarely back up saves, but I did make ISOs of all my games and put them on a backup HD.

The only save I've backed up is my MW profile. If I ever get the brain damage required to play that game online again(I fucking hated it when I stopped playing*) then at least I won't have to start at level 0. But it's also because there's a lot of work in that profile, with all weapon classes a few headshots removed from getting the gold weapon skins.
