I can often be such a bad backseat gamer. I try not to but when I had some friends playing L4D2 last night in my room, I just had to tell them that what they were doing was going to get them killed... They didn't listen and died.

But yeah, I will normally throw in tips when I see other people playing a game that I've played before and I always kick my self afterwards and have to tell myself to shut up.

Couldn't care less how someone else plays a game. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to play a game as long as someone is enjoying it. I totally do not get this generation of gamers who think the purpose of a game is to play with maximum machine-like efficiency instead of playing to have fun.

I do that when i'm playing Starcraft. For instance, i see my allies building a bunch of Seige tanks, so i say something like, hey that zerg is building air units, you need some air defense.

they say something like stfu, then get killed by 80 mutalisks, and now its me v 3

I used to offer advice while people were playing but I've pretty much given up on it since I can't stop myself from mocking them when they die repeatedly because they didn't follow my instructions properly.
I tell them to press a button or move a certain direction, they ***** and moan that they were doing it and the game didn't register them pressing the buttons. I tell them why they got killed by a certain enemy or trap and how to beat it, they chuck a fit and say that they knew that already or they were trying to. I watch the controller, their fingers go nowhere near the button they have to press until they've been dead for a few seconds. Facepalm followed by mockery. Then I'm told I'm not allowed to help anymore. Huge overreaction on their part, it's not my fault they suck now is it?

I do it all the time. I can't help myself.
Pretty much this. I sometimes watch my brother play MAG (beta) or Left 4 Dead 2. I tend to notice alot of small things that might help him win. But he ignores me. Then dies
But that's the best part, because then you can rub it in their face.

My cousin plays the MAG beta. Is it really as good as he says it is?

Not if it's a newbie, but my little brother (10) should definitely know better sometimes. He's been playing for a while, but there are those times where he just does something horrendously counterintuitive. It's frustrating to see him play Oblivion. He has a horrible build and doesn't even play according to his build (I have a bunch of healing potions, but I insist on healing by magic, then waiting for my mana to come back and heal again). Two gaming older brothers can surely teach him better. He's getting tired of the advice. Stubborn brat.

i realize how incredibly annoying it is so i am quiet most of the time, unless someone asks or they ask me to tell them if someting big is coming up, then ill tell them if there are a mass amount of guys around the corner or something, otherwise i dont mind just watching, its their guy and not mine, and its not like im forced to sit there till they finish, im not that controlling

it annoys the fuck outta me when one of my roommates does it, ill be in the process of ABOUT to do what he was just trying to tell me to do, and he will be like "do that, go there, climb that, WHERE ARE YOU GOING? DIDN"T YOU SEE THAT?" quite possibly the most annoying person to have narrate on earth, and i am a super calm person so you can believe they have the devils voice (a.k.a. a 12 year old screaming)

Actually, my brother and I switch off gaming and commenting, and it helps us find areas or solve puzzles that we otherwise would have missed. It's a big help for both of us.

I can't watch a certain friend of mine play a game, ever, he always makes the noob mistakes and shit and it just buggs the shit out of me.

Like in MW2 he'll be running and i see and enemy out of the corner of his eye, i dont speak up and he never notices, then gets bum raped. If i do speak up he just gets mad at me for tring to help, then gets bum raped.

Or he'll go sprinting into a room and not check his corners then get shot in the back.

Or he'll get a vendeta against a camper and die 30 times by the guy, only to finaly kill him with a grenade, and steal the guys camping spot. He then gets killed by said camper and then just repeat this procces.

It really bugs the hell out of me.
Oh god this, 1000x this.
I see your 1000 and raise you 10,000.

It really bugs me, to the point where i tell my friend to get up, and let me either finish the match or take the game out of the system.

Playing with extreme efficiency is MY definition of fun. And yes, there -are- wrong ways to play games, even if you're having fun.

I watch my friends try to play MW2 and it annoys the hell out of me. I always see enemies that they dont. I always would have gone a different way than they did through a map, and when they wind up getting killed for it, I feel really annoyed that I couldnt do anything to prevent it. Online FPS is not a spectator sport.

I don't do it now, but when I was younger I used to do it all the time when watching my mother play Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon (and their PS1 sequels). Bearing in mind that when this started I was about 6 and it carried on until I was probably about 12...

Half the time I'd actually take over and get her through most of the bosses and tougher levels :D.

I only do backseat gaming on my brother, as revenge for having no pity on me in video games as a kid. Now I can make him feel like a completely hopeless dumbass. MUHAHAHAHA!! Revenge is a so sweet!
