Note: Frustrated rant incoming.

Do you believe in luck? Do you believe that some higher power is screwing with your life? As stupid as it sounds, sometimes I think that it's the only explanation to some of the things that happen to me.

So my first pair of these rather good JVC headphones lasts for a few months, namely July to December. Pretty good, I would say. My second pair, which I got for Christmas as a replacement, broke this morning when I discovered that, somehow, the jack had bent really badly. So, before my dentist appointment today, I bought another pair. The store's just across the street, they're good headphones and they only cost $20, so why not, right? I leave the store and hook them up to my iPod. They work like a charm and I go to the dentist's office. After my appointment, everything's fine. I'm gonna need to take care of a developing cavity, but nothing too bad. The headphones are working great, too. You can only imagine my anger and surprise when I get home and they just stop playing in one ear. What. The. Hell. It's my third pair. I just bought them, too! I didn't even do anything that might break them!

"Why are headphones so important to you?" you ask. I have social anxiety. I can't stay out in public for very long without a pair of headphones isolating me from others. It really helps me to wear them. "Why can't you use earbuds?" you ask. Earbuds hurt like hell. My ears are really sensitive and the low-quality sound that comes out of them feels like something is stabbing at my eardrum. Besides, they don't help as much because they're not nearly as immersive. My ears get really cold in Winter with earbuds, too.

I'm not saying that I'm the least lucky person in the word, but does anyone else have any stories of terrible luck that they want to share?

Terrible luck? I have a story for you.

I can't to get past this first year college... This is my 3rd attempt at it this time. I'm just hoping for third time lucky.

I believe that luck is when hard work meets opportunity. In some cases anyway. Speaking of a situation when I had bad 'luck,' I was a second away from posting a challenge on Desert Bus. I was waiting for hours. But that's not as bad as recovering from an injury to the knee, three broken headphones and three fails to get past college.

Bad things come in threes right?

I do believe in luck as a concept, someone who has a lot of good random events occur is indeed lucky. Some one who undergoes a lot of random misfortune is unlucky. What I don't believe is in influencing luck via any means that aren't practical like owning insurance.

Doesn't stop me from undergoing multiple rituals before exams though. Failed last years exam with a moustache (movember) and tie combination. Clean shaven and open collar this year. Watched Captain America the night before I aced an exam, repeat viewing the night before the next exam.
