And I quote "...These guys are supposed to be the unstoppable badasses who kick so much arse they have to buy shoe polish specially formulated for buttocks smell." (Yahtzee: WET Review.) This made me wonder something as I mourned over the loss of my last 60 bucks. What moment in what game made you want to say "I AM A MONSTER TRUCK THAT WALKS LIKE A MAN!" (Yahtzee: Darksiders Review.)

P.S. In case you haven't noticed, I rarely watch anything other than ZP on this site.

In Tatsunoko VS Capcom.......Once i learned to play as Zero and Joe the Condor i OWNED.

Even against one of my buddies who owned me in every game we played together(cept Mario Kart Wii) i was almost on even ground with him.
Besides its Zero and Joe the Condor.....thats enough B-Aness to register on a molecular level.

Playing as Kyle Katarn in the Jedi Knight games. "Why yes, I DID just carve a bloody path through an imperial facility, single handedly, all so I could get the cortosis required to trim my beard. And the storm troopers damn well LOVED IT"

Holding down the fort in the Death Toll finale with friends in L4D made us all feel awesome (I'll watch the stairs, you watch the windows and the hole in the wall)

I actually pondered this very idea a few months back while working on a game project. What exactly constitutes a "badass moment?"

After thinking it over and going through my endless library of movies and games I came up with my own definition:
"Any moment where the realization is made universally clear that a particular character is in control. The level of 'badassness' can be measured using a combination of four different metrics: the level of control achieved by said character, the suddenness of the realization, the measure of how likable said character is, and the appropriateness of the aesthetic (catchphrase, explosions, cinematography of the scene, etc.)"

I generally dont feel awesome since there is a large amount of disconnect between the character and myself.

One time in MW2 though I wasted all my ammo at start for the challenge where you knife someone after shooting all your bullets. I ended the match 39 and 0. After 20 or so knife kills i started getting shakes from the adrenaline. It was awesome.

(Performed in the style of a Vault-Tec informative and educational film!)

"And now, for our friend, Jack. Here to talk to you about acts and feelings of badassary."

Hello. Many of you feel heightened and like you're walking on air because of the right character and the right moment in play. This is good. It means you have experienced the awe and majesty of being a total badass. Such a feeling is important in life, but there is a downside. On many occasions, you are not feeling badass. This makes you a sad panda, in South Park. In other places, you just feel bad, or possibly like an ass. We need to help you reconnect those terms to allow you to achieve badassary all the time.

How, you might ask? By building your character from the ground up. Duke Nukem will always be a badass, but maybe you don't always feel that way because he is the Duke and you are not. This is bad. Character dissonance is one of the leading causes of gaming indifference, and leads to not having fun. The best way to find your badass self, the actual gaming extention of you, is to start from the bottom and work at your own pace. Do you know why Gordon Freeman doesn't talk? He's too badass to say anything, and knows better than to separate the player from the fun by speaking.

Here now, inside your genuine non-imitation copy of Fallout 3, you can create your character to be anything you want, and kick lots of ass in the WAY you want. From there, the process is simple. Get out of the Vault, kill lots and LOTS of pathetic Raiders, and lord over all the NPCs of the land with your Mad Skillz. GNR will sing your praises in no time, and you will be the badass of badasses!

"This production is a genuine non-imitation article sponsored by Vault-Tec Labs and is not to be construed as anything unpatriotic. If found to be unpatriotic, please return to sender and they will come pick you up with the nearest air-transport."

Anytime I defeat a large creature or God in GOWIII.

All the gratuitous evisceration animations make these bad assery moments feel even more powerful.

Escaping from any of the campaigns in the L4D series on Expert. I even get excited if I die and watch one of my companions make it.

Any of the million and one slo-mo gunfights in Max Payne 1 & 2.

The rounds zipping through the air, shall casings being pumped out, muzzle flashes lighting up the room, bad guys tumbling backwards as the storm of lead pounds into them. Time slides back to normal, and all that's left is brass on the floor and a shit load of dead guys.

Fuck yeah :D
