I think it's a great that good games (imo) actually took home the awards.

CoD4 taking home 3 is well deserved but I have no idea how they won Story and Character.

Surprisingly GTA IV took home no awards. I didn't vote for them but I expected that a tidal wave of fan votes would tip the scales in their favour.

HMM...

I think Left 4 Dead deserves the award for multiplayer, it's incredibly fun, it's innovative, and we get to fight the zombie horde with friends or against them.

-It's a big multiplayer hit.

Boro Toro I'm not so sure about. I just had a look at the trailer and it's basically Little Big Planet on an island.

With regard to CoD4 winning best story and characters, who didn't think it was cool when the American soldier you played died in a nuclear explosion?
I know it was no RPG, but CoD4 has got to have had the best story I've ever seen for an out-and-out shooter. Not to mention some great, original cut-scenes (Being led to your own execution at the start) It was like playing a Hollywood blockbuster, I even started to 'like' my team Except my Captain with that dodgy moustache...

Well I"m not surprised with Mass Effect. I had the one of the best storys ever in a game, to bad it was labeled a booby festavile on fox.

Stroy and character should've been MGS4 for sheer batfuckery. And Old Snake kills you. Dead.
Also, wasn't MGS4 the first game to take advantage of Bluray's 50GB? Souds like quite a technical achievement

Boom Blox was a sweet game, albeit largely ignored in end-of-year wraps. Glad to see it got some dues.
