So I looked up who has been nominated this year and this was the best I could find:
Modern Warfare 3,
Battlefield 3,
Portal 2,
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,
FIFA 12,
Batman: Arkham City,
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword,
Uncharted 3: Drakes Fortune,
L.A Noire,
Minecraft.

The list should come as no surprise to anyone really, but only two original games make it to the list though and this makes me sad, how about you guys?

Who do you think will win and what do you think should have been nominated?

MW3/Skyrim/Arkham City/BF3 are the most likely candidates to win. The others need a miracle to happen for them to win.

Comparing just how much love I've already seen for one game, the folks at Bethesda already have a spot open and waiting for that particular award.

I wouldn't know seeing as I haven't played any of the games on the list but Arkham City and that didn't receive nearly as much love.

I know there is a lot of love for Skyrim and CoD, but what have those games actually achieved?
What have any of those games achieved?
I mean, all the sequels on that list lived up to expectations, but they didn't go beyond and that's my issue with these nominations. L.A Noire is probably the most innovative (at least technologically) and original game on that list but it probably only made it on there because it was the token best selling original I.P last year.

Sorry for the mini rant, just find it odd that they are going the popularity contest route for what is an ostensibly something only the nerdish and geeky would be interested in, who all, of course, know that popular does not equal good.

To be fair, original/innovative does not necessarily equal good.

You are right though, popular does not equal good. However, I feel that these games have been picked because they are great games. That's the reason the games have their popularity

I'll post the Metacritic scores (not the be all and end all I know but it gives an indication to a games quality) for each of the games, using Xbox 360 scores where applicable (only because it's the console I use most regularly). I am also only going to use the critic average because of the metabombs from users that have happened on at least a couple of these games.

Modern Warfare 3 = 88/100
Battlefield 3 = 84/100
Portal 2 = 95/100
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim = 96/100
FIFA 12 = 90/100
Batman: Arkham City = 94/100
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword = 93/100
Uncharted 3: Drakes Fortune = 92/100
L.A Noire = 89/100
Minecraft = 93/100

These are - on the whole anyway - the games of the year.

Now personally, out of that list, I would like to see Batman: Arkham City win it. Who do I think will win it? Skyrim.

I would love to see Minecraft get some love, if only because it's an Indie title and it's my personal favorite from that list.

Hwever I bet it'll probably come down to Skyrim and Battlefield

Xenoblade Chronicles is not up there so list is null and void also no Katawa Shoujo, poor show indeed.

Anyway now thats out the way from those games listed I would go with Skyrim but I havent played MW3,BF3,FIFA or L A Noire. Yay for pointless polls and im sure everyone will be happy with the final decision reached.

I doubt it.The "audience award" is basically a popularity contest so it'll come down to whichever game has the most fans and that'll more than likely be MW3.In fact I'm pretty sure CoD has won this award for the last few years

I personally liked Portal 2 the most. But I voted Minecraft just because I feel it needs to win. However, don't think either of them would win.

You know, I feel like giving the subtitle "Drake's Fortune" to Uncharted 3 is representative of just how little attention people paid to the game when they were looking for reasons to hate it. But yeah, the list is crap. Stuff like the Witcher 2 and Bastion are much more deserving to be up there but naturally their marketing campaigns weren't large enough so they're ignored.

This comment excludes Portal 2 in my bashing of nominated games because I'm in love with it.
