These people can't seem to understand that...IT'S NOT THE WORLD'S JOB TO RAISE YOUR CHILDREN AND PROTECT THEIR INNOCENCE. Do it yourself. Be a less shitty parent. Watch what your kids are doing when online!

The idea of banning a whole demographic from the internet is preposterous. Internet censorship will never be a problem for those determined to get on it. The world wide web is the digital Wild West - it can only exist when regulation is virtually nonexistent (not that anyone could really censor the internet - technology will always outpace the bureacrats). To ban children is impossible - if the kids are determined to get on the internet, they WILL get on it. The technology surrounds them; they have constant access to it (I remember hacking parental controls when I was a kid simply because I wanted access to online games).

Bottom Line: Is this a good idea? I think not. Can laws be made to address this situation? Yes. Can anybody enforce those laws? NO.

I'm fifteen, and I can honestly say that I don't give a shit about what I'm exposed to, because I'm mature enough to get over it. Perhaps, instead of an arbitrary age limit, we make people take an exam to prove that they aren't complete and total knobs?

No, it's the parents responibility for whether their children have internet access, and what they do with it, such a law would be unenforceable anyway...

I think people should just be banned from the internet in general. That'll fix everything.

Why dont we not ban children and let the parents decide what their children should do? Its all on the parents! Maybe if parents took more care of their children instead of buying their child a computer and saying "Here, now leave me alone until your 18" maybe there would be less of them on the interwebz...

No....Just no...The problem is children being on sites they shouldn't be on and a total ban from the entire internet is harsh. Not every site on the web is offensive or bad. For example, I'm 16, I like this site. Your idea for a law would force me and a good portion of the Escapist off the site.

Also, parents can install blocks on certain websites. Maybe they should do that before complaining about the sites themselves.

While I hate pre pubesant (I think I spelled that right) kids as much as the next guy I feel that this responsibility should fall to the parents to "protect" their kids from the terror that is the internet. I am a little biased though since I'm under 18 by a few years.

That is a terrible idea.
Terrible. Just terrible.

Banning kids under 18 so they don't get raped/molested/emotionally scarred/whatever other bullshit people are worried about? Why don't we just, ya know, teach them about the "dangers" of the internet? Or how about this craaaaaazy concept: How about we don't let 8 year olds use a service that says "YOU MUST BE 16 TO USE" right on the front page?

But then again, I'm 16, so my opinion clearly doesn't matter to you now does it?

Well, I've heard my impossible idea for the day. Kids will always find their way onto teh interwebs, not matter how many AOL family filters are active. With the chatroulette example, I don't like seeing guys jack off either, so I don't go to that site. If a kid goes back to it, they like floppy dick.

Who asks "anybody else like this site before it was popular" when they only have 127 posts? A troll, that's who, and I think I just fed him.

As far as the whole parental responsibility issue, I know I'm going to get shit for this, but I think procreation should be a privilege, not a right.

Most people here are under eighteen, myself included, and I don't see a lot of immaturity here.

Better idea why do most browsers not have a siteblock as a default hell it should be industry standard then when the lax parents scream about the internet ruining their childrens morality and purity *feh* thye have only themselves to blame.

Or how about we get more responsible parents that don't blame their every mistake on something else. It's always drugs, the internet, other children but never their own failed parenting.

But then where will under age kids get their porn?
The old-fashioned way? Voyeurism, dirty magazines, and late night cable TV.
They're not smart or organised enough anymore.
I woundn't say that more like there are new counters against that, it's not that there dumb or anything.B4 technology you could rob stores or murder people and no1 whould ever know it was you this also applies to children seeking porn, quite simply newer technologies consistently stop these transgressions and people that seek this things require more skill to circumvent them.
