I don't hate Nickelback... I don't particularly like them but they aren't the worst band in the world... besides they do a decent Metallica cover... OT: I dunno... I can't think of any...
Can't bag on them too much. If he can play and sing the chorus to Sad but True than he can play and sing the verse to The Four Horseman. I dunno why he left it out.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. But do you think it is a valid point to hate them because of their image? I mean, the very premise of this thread is pointless because it's purely preference. Hating or liking something, for any reason, pointless or not, is all opinion.
That being said, what I consider pointless hate, is an opinion made with ignorance. And for me, disliking them for their image, though pretty much exemplifying what death metal is, is pointless. I used to hate the death metal image, and I used to hate Cannibal Corpse before I gave them a chance. What I'm trying to say is, I used to tell people I hated them, when all I knew was their image, and nothing more.
I haven't met anyone else who likes U2, yet they have no problem selling out an arena. I suppose you could argue 'they've had their day' but they're still been bringing out some good stuff.
Anything that is popular is instantly hated. I've seen a lot of hate on Lady Gaga on here, but every where else people worship her.
Fun Fact: Gerard Way the lead singer for my chemical romance is also a comic book writer (maybe he should just stick to that/joking) and worked as an intern under Grant Morrison when he was writing "The Invisibles", as a result of their friendship Grant Morrison appeared as the villain in their latest film clip. I'm not a fan of My Chemical Romance and I never listen to their music but I find it funny that, as like a friend of mine said, "It's like Picasso guest starring in an episode of Everybody loves Raymond", a bit of Hyberbole but an interesting point nonetheless.

I think any of those chauvanistic gangsta rappers deserve the hate they get though, but that's because their lyrics are ridiculously stupid, sexist, and materialistic.[footnote]I'm talking about specific cases here, not the genre in general. It is an alarming percentage though.[/footnote]
Hating someone just because of their actual music though, is silly. Like when I heard that band Avenged sevenfold's drummer died, and loads of metalheads were like "Yay, a great day for music." It wasn't even black humour, they seemed genuinely happy someone had died.
To clarify, I love metal, and I can't stand Avenged sevenfold's music, but I hold nothing against them. Why the fuck would I?

Metallica gets a shit ton of hate for some reason. I mean, sure they calmed down a bit after their first few albums, but their old stuff was damn good thrash, and even their more "mainstream" albums had a few good tracks on them. Plus they've made a start to getting back to their roots with their newest album. Also, they can put on a hell of a fucking show. Probably the best live performance I've ever seen.
I think most of the hate comes from people that listen to metal because their parents find it vulgar and shocking rather than because it's actually good, and so they're like "METALLICA ISNT METAL" because they don't understand quite how the different genres of metal work and they think that the edginess of their slipknot nu metal shit is somehow being compromised by Metallica being called metal.
I mean seriously, even if as a metalhead Metallica isn't your personal cup of tea, you still probably could recite the lyrics to master of puppets, and they're at least respectable as musicians. That counts for something.
I see some pointless hate targeted at Blink 182, cmon that was like the only good band around when I was growing up, they will always be cool.

Metallica's influence is widespread, they are good musicians, and i think James Hetfield is a cool guy particularly. I enjoyed Ride The Lightning.
However i cant recite master of puppets lyrics, dont be such a fanboy, their not that amazing in the metal world, atleast to me. Master Of Puppets is probably one of the most overrated Metal albums ever.
Bands that come out after "your" generation seem to get the most unwarrented hate. I couldnt be bothered trying to type a list because it can be said of any band that YOU didn't grow up listening to. I'm using the term YOU as a paintbrush here. I'll use an example of A7X. I didn't grow up with this band, they came into popularity when I was coming of age to being allowed into bars. Most of my friends (who are +/-2 years to me) despise the band. If I ask why I usually get something along the lines of looks/"gayness"/"its not as good as from back when I was young".
We're all just turning into our parents and telling kids off these days for listening to what they listen to and how they should be listening to what we listen to.

Korn is definition of nu-metal where they borrow a lot of rapping, Slipknot had 1-2 songs on their first album where Corey tried to rap. They stopped after that. Never got in to mudvayne, not my thing. SOAD, really? Cmon, we both know there are major differences between them and Slipknot. Great band though. I can see a similiar song structure for some of linkin parks first album's songs and slipknots songs, but I never really liked any song after their first album. Rammstein, I like some of their songs but since it's not in english I couldn't really say their song structure is the same but that their feel as bands are different to me.

there are major differences in instrumental, lyric content, and sound feel. I may be using the term instrumental in the wrong way but I simply mean the component of the song without lyrics.
Its generally everything you hear in mainstream music and top 40 chart.
What youve described is pretty much it, songs begin with some intro, ussually a verse, its the more quite part of the song, then they go into a louder chorus, it repeats a few times, and ussually there is a bridge at the end. Vast majority of mainstream artists use this song structure again and again and again.
I can see that in some of their most popular songs: Pulse of the maggots, Wait and Bleed. Other songs have absolutely no chorus, they may chant 1 thing in a row several times, but have single serving verses the entire song:

Other songs have only 1 chorus, but consist mostly of 1 seving verses: People = Shit. Purity has only 2 lines for it's chorus, and only has it appear twice.
I listened to all of the songs you posted and I take back my, all death metal has incoherent screaming statement. I can't say I like it now, but it was an unfair assumption = ). The instruments sound kind of jumbled to my ears = (, you got any favorite melodic death metal songs? I remember really liking the instrumentals on some of those. Like you said about death metal, negative reactions are understandable, I can say the same about slipknot. We all have different tastes = P. I can say one thing that I like about death metal, they have great taste in cover art = ).

Oh no I didn't know my hypocrisy would be revealed so quickly but I absolutely hate Nickelback! It's mostly because they're music is so boring and they are completely corporate. I think I have valid reasons.
