Banjo Kazooie Hi-Res Images

Today, I was thinking that my favorite pics collection has a terrible lack of Banjo Kazooie pics. "Well, that just won't do", I said to myself. So, I booted up my N64 emulator and got to work.

But I ran into a lot more obstacles than I thought I would.

The first obstacle being the resolution the game was set at. I needed it to emulate a bigger picture essentially. Had to do some digging there to get what I wanted. But I got it.

Unfortunately, I exchanged one problem for another. You see, N64 games are understandably built with the assumption that you'll be playing the game at a 4:3 aspect ratio. As such, when you have the emulator expand the picture to be fully and truely widescreen, you'll start to encounter things sometimes just plain not getting drawn outside of the 4:3 resolution because the game thinks it doesn't need to draw it.

Now, that's not to say that you can't position the camera in such a way as to get all of the images drawn in on your screen. But it's rather hard and I had to get good at positioning Banjo at the proper place and aligning the camera at a proper angle so everything on my screen would be drawn.

Right after that, I ran into problems taking the actual screenshot. Apparently the game won't let you take them when you're in full screen. Even if you pause the game, the emulator will refuse to take one. That means I had to use the PrtSc key and Paint to get a screenshot. But alas, you also can't take screenshots when the game is being emulated or you'll just get a black screen! So, in order to take a successful screenshot, I had to pause emulation, hit the PrtSc key, back out of full-screen, paste the shot into Paint, and save it.

But wait! Paint saves all pictures as JPEG's by default, thus turning the picture into a terrible looking PoS. So now I need to repeat all those steps and then specify the picture to be PNG. And FINALLY, I have my screenshot.

*whew* That wasn't so hard, was it? >_>

But never fear, I have them now. All maps (Except Bubblegloop Swamp because screw that level.) have been captured at a 1366x768 resolution. Ladies and gentlemen, trust me when I say that these images are pretty much the highest resolution you're going to get out of the game without seeing some massive clipping. I was already pushing it with the resolution I had. And so, without further ado, here they are:

And there you are. If you have any places in BK you would like shots of as well, just post them here, and don't forget to comment and tell me what you think of these. Also, I might do hi-res screenhots of the maps in Banjo Tooie as well if enough people ask me for them. And that's it. Enjoy!

These are pretty good.

Makes me wish my 360 didn't break down so I could play this game again... :(

Also, the link to a picture of Mumbo Mountain leads to a picture of Clanker's Cavern.

If you have a laptop/desktop, chances are you can emulate it with no prob.

And thanks. I forgot to put in Mumbo's. Will edit the OP with the image.

Im still suprised on how Microsoft decided to re-release Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark in HD for the 360, playing these games in HD feels so good, they feel so crisp.

Thank you OP! This is the only game missing from my N64 classics collection. My eyes are grateful for peeking at those maps once again. Good old memories.

No Bubblegloop Swamp? Nice pictures though. I always loved Banjo Kazooie. In fact I think I may have to crack the N64 out after seeing these!

Where is Banjo And Kazooie?? I wanna see them all crispy like!! :)
But yes, these are good. I might actually get the games again on XBLA, already have perfect dark on there, though both the banjo games are a tenner each. I paid less than that for Nuts and bolts!

Easily one the best games of it's time, it was fun, witty, and great gameplay. If only there were more games like that now. Wish they would make a banjo 4 returning to the roots of the franchise.

Actually, if you had a capture card, I'm sure you could get some nice hi-res images out of that. But, I do not. Even today, they're really expensive.

Nicely done ^_^ How about Diddy Kong Racing or Majora's Mask next?
Diddy Kong Racing? Eh... Heh... That sounds... extremely difficult I'm afraid. You see, In order to take these pictures in BK, I had to position the camera just right so the game wouldn't do any clipping. I also had to find the perfect spot to perch on so I would get as good a view of the map as possible. Diddy Kong Racing would make it incredibly difficult to do that. Majora's Mask however... Hm. That would be doable. Only problem is, I never finished the game or even got halfway through it I'm sad to say.

Ocarina of Time I could do though.

Thanks. I didn't do Bubblegloop because due to its layout, it would be impossible to take a shot that would encompass at least half of the map. I also didn't do it because that map was pretty boring as far as BK levels go, and there was nothing very redeeming about it.

Nevertheless, I will go in there and take as good of a screenshot of it as I can if you really want me to.

They have an HD version on the 360 that you can buy and download. You can also use an emulator like what I'm doing.

For three reasons.

1. Camera positioning would turn into absolute hell as I don't have the fine control of it that I have when I'm looking with C Up and that is needed.

2. To get B&K. into a good scenic position alone would also be difficult to say the least.

3. Some people just want to see the gorgeous maps without anything in the way. B&K in the pictures would distract from this.

Also, remember guys. I am willing to do a tour of Banjo Tooie as well if enough people ask for it.

Huh, I didn't even know that Banjo Kazooie was on the arcade.

I may need to revisit some nostalgia soon...

Ah, Freezeezy Peak. That level and I had such a huge love-hate relationship growing up (I played this game a fuckton as a kid). Its so fun, and yet ridiculously easy to die while playing it.

Nice pics, BTW. I might use the Clanker's Cavern one as my new background.

When I was trying to line up a shot, I kept getting pelted by those annoying-ass snowmen. I had to beakbomb every one of those turds just so I could have some peace and quiet.
