Dokapon Kingdom for the wii. OH NOES ITS FOR THE WII EVERYBODY RUN! Seriously, amazing party game. Trying to get a full story mode done with some friends, I think we are at our 5th or 6th session now and not even half way through....

Heroes of Might and Magic I-IV
I still hope that someone will eventually create a turn-based RPG that is just as amazing and addictive as those games.

The more recent HoMM games by Ubisoft are crap compared to the originals.

For me, I'd say Atelier Iris (3rd one was my favorite, closely followed by the 2nd one) or Mana Khemia. Both by ATLUS, both about item creation, but tehy have this great 16-bit artwork, decent combat system, and awesome stories. Just amazing!

Pathologic,The Void, and Cryostasis.
you sir, are awesome!

its hard to find a game more obscure than pathologic or the void (maybe witchaven?) but anyway I own the first two of those and have been considering getting cryostasis. I must ask, is it any good? I hear that its highly symbolic and psycological.

OT: I'd have to say the kings field series by from software. thats right FROM SOFTWARE! the guys behind demon's souls. its kinda hard to describe but I would go for "japanese elder scrolls mixed with the lonliness of team ico games" they had quite good graphics for their time and focused alot on atmosphere. unfortunately they are reletavly unknown outside of japan despite nearly all of them being translated into english.

here's the trailer
and here some of the music

This topic is very interesting with alot of good games.
Here is one that i think is really good but extremly hard to categorize. the games is The Void, wich is a very arty game but with a intersting gamplay and strange universe, BUT it is extremly hard, for example one mistake can make a game over but only 1hour later and you can not avoid it (imagine the frustration).
So these are my cents to this topic and go check the game out if u can.

I've said it once and I will say it again: The World Ends With You. I loved that game despite it being a bit of a button smasher on the DS.
its tetsuya nomura that man cant make a bad game if he tried and once i get a DS/3DS that game is on my list along with all the DS/3DS kingdom hearts games.

They aren't super-unknown, but I second Battle realms, Beyond Good and evil and Psychonauts, and I would like to add Sacrifice, Battlezone 1 & 2, Homeworld 1 & 2 and Sword of the Stars 1 (I haven't forgiven the devs for the bug-riddled mess that the sequel was. Once I'm done with the new Zelda and Battlefield, I'll see if they finally finished the game.)

Another I guess would be Gotcha Force for the Nintendo Gamecube, literally, the ONLY Gamecube that didn't suck.
I'll assume you mean the only GameCube game that didn't suck.

In which case...

*ahem*

You [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/ba/MetroidPrimebox.jpg/250px-MetroidPrimebox.jpg] missed [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/38/Pikmin_2_Case.jpg/250px-Pikmin_2_Case.jpg] some [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/72/ZeldaWindWakerGCNCoverArtUS.jpg/250px-ZeldaWindWakerGCNCoverArtUS.jpg].

As for unknown games I want people to know about?

Easy.

Impossible Creatures. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impossible_Creatures]

What's not to love about a real time strategy game where you make the army yourself, by combining random animals and choosing the best body parts for the job?

How about a mid-to-late game tank unit that can fly? Easy. Great White Shark combined with an Owl. Shark head, owl wings. Boom.

Also, the game was made by Relic Entertainment. The same people that developed Homeworld and Homeworld 2. Oh, and all the Dawn of War games. And Company of Heroes. And the recent release, Space Marine.

All I'm saying is, it's a fucking brilliant underrated game made by an amazing developer.

Azure Dreams for the Playstation 1.

I doubt it has aged very well, but I will always love this game.

TES V: Skyrim...
Its this really underground RPG that barely anyone has heard of.. its pretty good aswell.. im not sure why more people arent into it.
I'm sur i'm one of the few people to play that. It's fun and all, but there are a lot of glitches and the NPCs are bad at being human (funny that). Oh well, problems like that are bound to occur in an indie game such as Skyrim.

OT: Darkfall. Best. MMO. Ever.

And as far as i'm concerned, the only MMO ever (apart from the original Ultima) on the account that it has a Morrowind-esque combat system, no leveling but just improvement of skills, pvp that isn't ridiculously reliant on what gear you have...
The fact that it wasn't a right-click-and-wait game is so great. Pity about the lack of a fanbase.

Gotcha Force for the Gamecube, and Phantom Dust on Xbox. Maybe Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on PS2.
I still dream of sequels for Gotcha Force and Phantom Dust. I have a lot of ideas for them, although I'll never see it actualized.

Oh! And Battle Hunter for PS1. It was ten bucks brand new, and wasn't much to look at graphically but I had such a blast playing it.

I think it's fantastic. It's an immensely slow-burning experience which puts a lot of people off, but if you liked Pathologic then you'd probably love it. The story is extremely symbolic and low-key so you never really get a full understanding of it, which can be both a good and bad thing, and the atmosphere is brutally hostile. If it were a more normal FPS the combat would be pretty annoying but as a horror game it goes a long way to ratcheting up the tension. Plus it has the single coolest health system I've ever seen in a game, and is the only title I can think of that lets you save someone's life after they've died.

I'd say go for it.

Star Control 2. It's pretty old, my first memory of it was playing it on a 3DO. Basically, it's Mass Effect before Mass Effect was ever a twinkle in someone's eye. It's fucking awesome, and someone made it free open-source port that you can download. It's fucking free now, so go play the goddamned thing.

Great game, and I guess time has made the series somewhat obscure. They were super popular when they were new though. It really is like Asteroids meets Mass Effect, but funny.

I don't know, how popular was Dark Clouds?
Well I remember the first Dark Cloud getting quite a bit of exposure when it launched, but I think it counts.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant. It's probably the only turned based RPG that I played all the way through on a console, and simply an awesome game.

Killing Floor. It's like COD's zombie modes, but better.
