What?
I've always heard that bassists get the most girls.
Maybe except for singers.
She's a complete bellend to be honest. Doesn't know the difference between her arse and her elbow.
I always hear it's the singer or guitarist who get all the ladies. The only bassist I can think who was popular with the ladies was Pete Wentz, but I do think people usually like the best looking one in the band, regardless of what they play.

You know, I didn't think it was important until I stripped a song i liked of all bass parts. It adds texture and depth to the melody and harmony, while augmenting the rhythm. Also this...

The only proof you need for bass being awesome is Steve Harris.

Bass in music is garlic in a meal - if you can hear it all the time it's overpowering, and so it should enhance the song and its absence makes the song sound more shallow than if it didn't have it.

That's just a very long running joke. Others are that bassist always get the chicks, and that drummers are impossibly stupid.

Some songs are not listened to for the bass, but without it they woud be hollow, and cold.

Bass may not always be the spotlight thing, but's it's often the backbone of the song.

It really heavily depends on the group... yeah it's important in parliament, not so much in cannibal corpse

Well, when I think about it I don't really have any examples to base the assumption that bassists get girls on.
But the same goes for singers and guitarists.

I've always just been told that the bassists were popular with the fans.
Dunno why.

Dude just listen to some RHCP, listen to Flea's awesome bassing and you will know that bass can be a hell of an instrument. People don't see it as an important instrument but it's not about what you play it's how you play and the energy you produce while playing that will get others into it.
Yeah, but not everybody is so blessed as to be the living incarnation of God.

OT: I dislike how Bass is being used in modern music. Hell, just listen to any "Addicted to Bass" album to see what I mean.

I always figured the order of which band members get the most *ahem, nudge, wink wink* was: Joint first place between lead singer and lead guitarist, then bassist, then drummer. Then the roadie when he states he is with X popular band while remaining ambiguous as to his actual job.

Apparently it's supposed to be something about being free to make eye contact with members of the audience and stand there and look cool.

If people diss the bass around you again give em a slap from me.

Bass is important for music to have any kind of kick to it at all. Especially live. If you watch any live band with a shit bassist it makes the whole thing godamn boring.
And the bass guitar is actually a pretty hard instrument to play. Well, as long as you aren't like some people who just play root notes through whole songs -.-

Drums and bass guitar set up the main rhythm framework for a band. They both need to work hand in hand for more complex rhythms in songs, sure if the bass is simple (for example, root notes every 8th note, or something like that), you aren't going to miss out (rhythm wise) by dropping a bass guitar, however you definately would miss out on overall sound. An electric guitar even with the use of any harmonic/amp tricks won't really give the fullness that a bass can provide to a band.

You can easily ignore that though if you want, and I can just say that I think bass is way more important than guitar because funk and mowtown are favourites of mine (genre wise) where bass gets a more imposing role in the band.

Les Claypool disagrees.

Less extreme common-day bass guitar handling is still quite essential. Try it yourself - or have your favourite combo go at it while the bass player goes for a quick shag or a shower break. Doesn't quite sound the same, I'd say.

I love the bass in music. I like singing the bass parts just as much as I like singing the melody.

I deeply value the sound of a good bass. Sure, in rock it often gets short-shrift to the more valuable lead guitar and lyrics, but there's music where the bass is often the primary, most critical component. I love me some of that funky, funky bass.

And bass guitar aside, don't get me started on bass in general. For me, it's not only appreciated in almost all of the music I listen to, it's highly desired.

Ahhhh, a fellow Rush fan.

Alas there are far too few of us in this world.
Saw them in Dublin, about time they played over here.
Yeah I was at the Dublin show myself. Was pretty damn amazing.

I play bass and I think it's really important - it's just not as acutely noticable, but you'd notice it if it was taken away. Plus, there are some really awesome bass-based songs (oooh see what I did there) like half of the RHCP, Little Green Bag, Come As You Are
