English man? Pfft. I'm an American! *Nex pets a bald eagle and casually reloads his assault rifle* We don't take too kindly to them "English" folk 'round these parts.
What's the difference?

*runs into the panic room* *locks door*

Whoops... Well, I have never seen an American use the term "gratis" either. And you all speak the same language... more or less. Wasn't there a South Park episode about this? I vaguely remember something about 'Canadian English' being better than 'American English'. But I digress.

Bastion was an enjoyable experience, but with little reason to replay past the New Game Plus.

Even though The Stranger's Dream is a small sacrifice money wise, it remains to be seen whether it will add anything substantial enough for me to put the time in. I remain optimistic, I want it to be good.

Bastion was one of the more unique titles I found myself playing this year.

"Did you hear about {your name here}?" your friends whisper conspiratorially while loitering in the nearest mall. "They never finished Bastion!"

"Hahahaha! What a loser!" comes the reply. "Also, they totally smell like butt!"
Don't tell anyone I haven't started it, worse still, only bought it cheap last week.

It's nice to see someone else joining the free DLC crowd. Of course, paid DLC has it's own rights and merits, but thank-yous to your new customers and incentives to your yet-to-be-customers are important too.

No all we gotta hope for is that sequel... C'mon!
Honestly, I don't know. Bastion's story was brilliant but stands on its own. A prequel might be allright though - how about something about the Ura-Caelondian war?
I was thinking more along the lines of the Detonation ending, and the groups adventures in the Post-Calamity world? Maybe meeting with other survivors. But yeah a prequel would be awesome too =)

One of the endings makes it very clear that there's a whole world to be seen out there. Also, the Ura and Caelondian peoples were the only ones the story focused on, they weren't the only people in the world.

Granted, I may be reading into Rucks' comments too much but that's what it sounded like to me.

Awesome, I was disappointed that we never had a "Dream" sequence for Rucks, so I'm really glad to see it being added in...and I'm excited to see SuperGiant continue being a solid company by offering such post-release support. Definitely going to have to take a break from Skyrim to return to this for a bit when it's released.

Hold on a second - if Microsoft doesn't allow an add-on to be gratis, how did I download a character pack for Castle Crashers for free last week? It was the pink knight pack and it was most definitely free. Is there some kind of exception that would apply in that case which isn't obvious to me?
It's really on a case-by-case basis, but in general Microsoft's policy is that you can release X number of free DLC items if you promise to produce Y number of paid DLC afterwards. I'm going to make the assumption that SuperGiant isn't planning on making any more DLC after this, or if they are then it doesn't meet whatever number "Y" is for their terms with Microsoft. Thus no free standalone DLC for Bastion.

This is the first time I've encountered free DLC that I would actually pay for, given the opportunity. Interesting. THQ, take note.

I think -- and don't quote me on this -- character skins and aesthetic changes like that are minor enough that Microsoft is cool with them being free. Stuff that adds actual new gameplay modes, like this Bastion DLC, breaks whatever arbitrary barrier Microsoft has set for "free DLC."
The reasoning Microsoft is not keen on Free DLC, is that they don't charge developers for bandwidth like Sony, they charge the users. I think it a better business strategy, that way it encourages developers will create more DLC. It sucks you have to pay for it, but the plus side is there more content(you still have to pay for)

A lot of developers seem to be willing to take the hit.
