They said that due to Microsoft discontinuing it, they're removing the service. Anyone who bought the non-Steam version can activate their game's code on Steam. Unfortunately you won't be able to keep your save games, but the tradeoff is worth it, right?

Personally, I am overjoyed, the main reason I never kept playing Batman: AC was because GFWL kept fucking me over.

Now if only they removed the SecuROM...

This is fantastic news. I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to play those games with the impending shutdown of GFWL. Now if only Dark Souls and Dawn of War II do the same thing, I will be a happy camper.

It's rumored that they may have patched that out as well since there's some other things changed besides the removal of GFWL. But nothing's confirmed yet.

I hope they have, there's no mention of it on the Steam storepages.

I have the retail version of AA and the Origin version of AC GOTY. Their keys are invalid according to Steam. Looking at the comments on Steam, I'm not the only one. Hopefully this will be fixed.

I don't even mind the loss of saves if it means not using GFWL.

I had the Steam version of Arkham City, and I now seem to have the Game of the Year edition. Sweet, Free DLC!

They only announced this a few hours ago, so I'm guessing there is just some sort of kink in they system.

I'm quite gladdened with the demise of this horrible service, when I started playing Dawn of War and Dead Rising I was puzzled as to it's merit.

Shortly thereafter I realized that it was just an awful decision that only resulted in segregating gamers.

I may have to look into some of the passed-over titles.

Forgive the noobness but just to be clear, this is an Xbox thing right? I own the physical, retail GOTY Arkham for the PS3. Not a problem, right?

It's only on the PC. GFWL is a terrible "service" that acts as DRM for many games. It'll soon be shut-down.

No! GFWL = Games For Windows Live. This malady affects Windows. It's a stupid erm, well, actually I don't really know what it's supposed to do. It just gets thrown onto a lot of games, you have to sign into Games For Windows Live to play those games, and I'm not really sure what the benefits are. I think the general consensus here is that there are no benefits. Just another stupid Microsoft brainfart.

Oh OK. I thought it was an Xbox thing because of Microsoft. Thanks for clearing that up :)

I read the thread title and was like "YEA!!!"

I booted up the game and that "YEA!!!" quickly turned into a "FFFFFUUUUUUUU!!!!"

17 hours....fucking gone...I finally get to the damn game on my backlog on Monday and now I gotta do it again. God I wish there was a way to recover our saves. Losing that much progress on your first play through is friggen soul crushing for me because the majority of the subsequent replay now feels like a damn chore.

Oh well, I know whats going to take up most of my weekend. Funny enough, Steam is having a 75% off sale on the games; I guess it's to celebrate the liberation of the games former shackles.

This was a pretty cool thing to do on the part of Steam and the publisher of the Batman series, despite the fact that I lost close to twenty hours from my Arkham City playthrough.

It's ironic that I've always considered replacing my copies of Batman AA and Batman AC with the GOTY versions, only to find out I don't need to now because the Steamworks migration has turned them both into GOTY editions anyway. That was a very pleasant surprise, because I was fully expecting to have to pay to get access to the new Steam versions. Props to Warner Bros. for doing this transition the right way!

I hope other games follow suit and remove GFWL though that's a lot to hope for with some of the older titles on there.

This happened to Bioshock 2 the other week too. It also moved all the DLC with it as well. I'm actually considering playing it now (bought it cheap on Steam with little interest) because I heard that DLC was the only good part of the game, and I didn't feel like going through a mediocre game so that I could pay for some decent DLC.

For those who want to get their save file back, read this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/200260/discussions/0/810938810549705289/[/Quote#p1

Took me 5 minutes to get back my save file. That's 17 hours worth of playing not gone to waste. Something you should all share with others if they want to get back their progress.
