the voice acting was superb, even if the animations were sub-par in the conversations. Mark Hamill just brings an energy to the Joker no one else has quite captured as well as he has.
But you said I still had fun but, with no multiplayer, it was criminally short at 15 hours and yet you say that if it did have multiplayer, it would suck. What contradictions.
I didn't say that there, what I meant was games like COD 4 and Halo 3 can get away with short stories because they have good multiplayer Batman does ot
Batman Arkham Asylum is a overrated piece of casual crap disguised as a hardcore game. The reason it got scores of nines from "professional" reviewers is because they were bribed by Eidoes just like how they were bribed by M$, Bungie, and Rockstar.
Play a real game like Call of Duty 4, Half-Life 2, Painkiller, Portal, and Saints Row 2!
My guess is that the person who questioned the sexuality of everyone who enjoyed the game is either under the legal age to drive, in a fraternity and a "brah", or has his own issues regarding sexuality. There may be a combination of more than one of those going on here.
He represents the sector of Yahtzee's fanboys (notice how all the "real" games are non-artsy Yahtzee picks) who don't realize that Yahtzee would absolutely hate them if he met them in person, and are a big part of the reason he loathes online gaming. I get the feeling I would dislike this douche, too.
I've never read a single issue of Batman, but I enjoy the game a lot. It's not very difficult, but I feel like I'm getting my $60s worth.
I enjoyed the games he mentioned as worthwhile a lot, but I also like an occassional retreat to a game that will tell me a story, something which from that list only Half Life 2 even attempts.
I can understand your opinion especially since you not a Batfan and to your credit this was a good review. Again I thought the game rocked my socks off but that's because I love my Batman.
What i liked is that the developers stayed true to the batman story and the abilities he has well building the game around those points instead of forcing situations that make no sense in a story driven game i.e. most other comic games include some inane race portion where the hero has to travel from point a to point seven hundred and twenty three well passing through any number of rainbow colored rings like a circus dog on herion.
Or any super man game in creation.
Nice that a company finally did a respectable game so other developers can follow their lead.

And a just a heads up. Eidoes spent millons devolping,Marketing and then eventually shipping the Batman AA. If they had any bribe money left I assure you it would have been the very little left from the budget not enough to bribe the thousands of revvewers out there.
Also have you even played the game? I don't see how you can judge it based on the fact that you've never tried it. Seems kinda jaded to me.
One of the things this game DOES do well is dispel videogame logic. Throughout the story your enemies get fairly wise to your activity.
Joker starts putting bombs in the Gargoyles, and later in the game thugs are searching the sewers for the Batcave once Joker figures out your getting your gadgets from SOMEWHERE.
One thing I noticed in the demo(The game isn't out on PC yet) is that you can fist fight a guy in one side of the room and attract every thug to that point, but, you can open those grates things right behind one, and he won't bother to look behind, even tho you made a shitload of noise opening, getting out and closing.
Don't let them bully your opinion around, if you felt like it was a 6.5, stick with it. The indecisiveness of your score is very misleading. You give the impression that you almost wanted to dislike this game.
Agreeing with everyone else as well though, 15 hours for a singleplayer game is pretty damn long.
You gave an average score to a highly anticipated game starring a character that has an incredible amount of fans. Trolling was inevitable. Great review, though. As a man who is greater than I once said:
Sure the game has some flaws as far as game play goes, but over all it's a great game. I think the core of this game is that it actually makes you fell like you are Batman. The game mechanics are really what stand out in the game. Unlike alot of games that have been reciently release this one is trying to break new grounds as far as how beat-um-ups can work in the modern 3d era.
Unlike most games that have been coming out recently this game is at least trying to break down some new barriers and far as how you can do a good combat system, while not requiring you to memorize and insane list of button combos that is more obnoxious and tedius then listening to the Vagina Monologes on audio tape narrated by Fran Drescher, while its her time of the month.
The only three actual problems I had with the game was some of the camera control during fights, the stealth system could have been designed better, and lastly the over useds snippits spoken by joker over the PA. The third part was more so during the challange rooms when you have to constently hear him say the same things over and over agan.
Over all I would agree with Eoin that this game is worth getting and hope to see the combat engine be the new norm for beat-um-ups in the future.

Some people actually enjoy more types of games than the usual "go there, shoot that". You are not one of these people. Fine. But do not trash a game that you haven't even played.
I only have a problem with one thing: since when finishing a game 15 hours is not a lot? That was kinda vague. Did you finish the game in 15 hours or did you find and do everything in 15 hours?
I loved this game, from making guards into pinatas, tackling Bane himself, tutting at the slutty outfit they jammed poor Harley into, luring and throwing guards into their own electric doors, and laughing my arse off when I found the Calendar Man reference in the cells section. (It's an in joke, you have to be a Batman nerd like myself to get it).
I even found myself quite scared during the first Scarecrow level, then again that was because I had been up for 26 hours and it was 4am.
Good review, it deserved a higher score, but don't listen to me seeing as I am both a Batman fanboy, and a "******" as the troll on the first page so eloquently puts it.
(Just a little gramma-nazi comment, you did a few run on sentences, try using a few more commas in future)

I just realised, you're not a Halo hater, you're a desperate Yahtzee fanboy, who is pleading for a bit of attention from your beloved role model. Good luck with that.
EDIT:I found the review to be a bit... meh. No offence. Maybe some grammar checks, and a little more description, or just making it longer would make the review better.

Eh. I dunno, I want to like Arkham Asylum, but I really can't get into it. If I do start playing it, i'll have a great time, but I have to force myself to put it in the disc tray. It seems like when it comes to that, I shouldn't be playing it. And I feel sorta bad that i'd rather be playing Fable 2.
