Batman: Arkham Asylum

I know this has probably been said over and over, but HOT DAMN! B:AA is quite possibly GOTY material, if not one of the best games ever.

Maybe its my own personal bias showing through (Batman is my favorite DC hero - Ironman takes it for Marvel), but even after only an hour or so, this is an incredible game on its own merits. The combat is fun, allowing me to do what I please, as I please, and in a @$%^ing awesome way.

The story fits, is fun, and campy in the cool way. The game looks absolutely perfect for what it is, and sound all fits right in.

Stealth gameplay gives me thrills like I haven't had since SC:CT. You are a god, and the men are your toys, existing only as you see fit to entertain yourself.

Add in a metric ton of Bat references, material and awesome, if B:AA doesn't win at least one GOTY award, then there is no justice in this world.


EDIT:Oh...right. I didn't notice that I didn't copy the bottom half of the post from the other site I posted it on.

Long question short, I asked if it wasn't a Batman game, would it still have been as awesome, or is it the fact that its great and a Batman game that puts it so high up?

But OT: idk about it being GOTY we've still got quite a few big releases coming up, my money's on Dragon Age but then again I just love BioWare <3

I find G.O.T.Y. to be a bit of a joke.

Kinda like walking into a bookstore and seeing "#1 New York Times Bestseller" stamped on all the covers.

I hated it to, I was at a loss at what the critics where raving about. When everytime I punched someone my arm leg or cape is sticking through a bad guy or scenery its pretty pathetic. It was really bad when it went slow mo, nothing like someones head clipped through batmans knee for 3 seconds. But I'm picky on crap like that.

i really didn't like it... combat started off ok but boiled down to being really repititive and without any complexity or anything... all the bosses were just dodge then kick, it all looked relatively nice until you realised there's no point in no leaving the detective vision on... the riddles were either really easy or something you had to be "in" on so there was bugger all challenge... i REALLY hope it doesn't get GOTY... apart from the "hey i'm batman" feel i didn't think it had much going for it... and even that didn't really do anything for me...

Yeah that was just one reason why, it felt just odd. I would rather have an open world to play around in rather than an asylum. To play as a gothem knight of sorts with the tech and batmobile and an expanded flight system would of been much cooler than some arcadey brawler.
