Powers have nothing to do with it. If Power=cool, then Goku would be cooler then Bogart. Jubilee would be cooler then Bruce Lee. Aquaman would be cooler then Hit Girl. Batman is cool because it's interesting to see heroics not based on the impossible, yet still in the realm of incredible and obviously fictitious. Its interesting to see heroes who have to fight against villains who don't have an advantage in overwhelming power, but in the simple fact that destruction is easier then protection, and being moral is harder then being evil. In fact, Batman and Superman, the most blatantly overpowered hero out there (In theory), have a lot in common. Id even say that Batman is like a Superman without powers. Both are characters that are rather one dimensional in order to focus solely on that dimension. Batman just focuses on that one dimension without powers.

Costume is still silly, even if it is based on fear.

The monologue at the end of The Dark Knight reminds me of the whole "dont believe in you, believe in the me that believes in you that believes in you," or whatever the hell that stupid meme was from gurren lagen.

Batman can be awesome, but his theme and that of most of his villains, along with many of the plots he's used in are simply demented.

It's taking a man with amazing combat ability and an arsenal of weapons, then putting him in spaceman pajamas, giving him a can of silly string and telling him he has to fight the circus to save the city.

I specifically remember one comic where Mongol broke into the JLA compound while Batman was the only one there and he had to employ a bunch of tricks to keep Mongol at bay while Superman and Wonder Woman got came back because he could actually win. It was actually pretty cool and despite the fact that Superman actually said that Batman couldn't really beat Mongol, he still looked like a badass. So I'm saying you're right.

Batman is not a joke but he is not that great either. He is basicly in my mind par for the course.(UNLESS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE BURTON MOVIE)He is the generic non superpowered hero like how Superman is the generic Superpowered hero. Captain America on the other hand........
[HEADING=3] CAPTAIN AMERICA:He's like Superman without super-powers. How balls-out crazy-brave is that? [/HEADING]
Also, Captain America and Batman would be the greatest cross-over team up ever. Or they could fight. Either way it would kick ass.

They did fight and then team up in the DC vs Marvel crossover. It was awesome!

They actually did fight each other in the DC vs. Marvel miniseries. Batman won, but not by much. It was about as awesome as you'd expect.

EDIT: Damn, ninja'd...

See, the only problem I have with Batman is his Context-sensitive utility belt.

I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY he can plan for every tiny little thing that could ever happen. Also, as big a brain as he has, when it's not about the little gadgets in his designer fanny-pack of a belt and he does end up having to retreat back to his cave for whatever reason, how the hell does he manage to make an insta-win gadget within just a few hours or one night?

Hmm, a new villain? He calls himself Ultra Sound Man? I know, I'll create a small hand-held device that's smaller than my thumbnail that stops all sound in a 200-mile radius!

CONTEXT-BULLSH*T anti-villain. That's what Batman is.

And yes, I am a Batman fan, particularly of The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.

Batman is awesome. I don't understand why anyone would ever question his amount of awesome. I just don't.

Yahtzee said it best: "How come Batman is always the least interresting character in his own stories?"
Because his character has been mined holllow over dozens and dozens of storylines, comics, and retelling after retelling. The villains have as well through their own mini graphic novels or storylines. The fandom has explored EVERYTHING about Batman and the supporting characters, leaving no stone unturned. There is almost nothing left to discuss what hasn't been talked about countless times.

Isn't he superhuman though? I always thought that counted as a superpower o.o

Well Kind of. He is just in the peak of human ability. (He runs like a one minute mile and he can bench press 1100 pounds.) He can't do stuff like shooting lasers or flying or taking bullets to the face.

Go watch Superman/Batman Apocalypse. Darkseid says it the best about Batman. "Unlike Superman and Wonder Woman you are human. You are willing to do whatever it takes."(You have to see the movie to know the context of it but its still an epic movie)(prefer the comic over the movie though I do have to say.)

Also, and not coincidentally: one of the very worst examples of Batman as a joke. There is simply no way he should be able to survive a physical confrontation with a villain who can kick people into orbit. Except that the Big Bad is always conveniently dialed down when Batman enters the picture.
I think a better example is where the:
army of Doomsdays appear and he is able to kill them along side the superhuman Amazonians and Superman when the original KILLED Superman

*edit* whoops forgot the ending spoiler tag there.

Oh God yes. I even forgot about that. Just awful.
I believe in the Comic that didn't happen he was on a different part of the island at the time but in the comic Darkseid beats him close to death because he has the:
whatever the hell they are called set to destroy Apocalypse. It can kind of be seen as why Darkseid would pull his punches when he is able to pretty much KILL superman.

I LOVE BATMAN, but my friend and I recently got into an argument about how awesome he really is. I believe that he is amazing because he beats the crap out of villains, and he doesn't have any super powers. My friend states that he is a crappy hero because he doesn't have super powers, and his main villains are just lunatics with guns (Penguin, Two-Face, Joker, Thorne etc.). My question to you escapist is what do you think of Batman? Do you think he is an awesome crime fighter, or a little girl that who would never be able to take down a villain of Superman or the X-Men?
My friend, you need to have a closer look at Batman lore. Not only has he taken down enemies of Superman and such, most of those superheros themselves find him creepy. Hell, Batman keeps (or at least used to keep) files with plans for how to stop every major superhero just on the off chance that they happen to turn evil.

It's fairly regularly suggested that, despite his lack of powers, Batman is the most dangerous superhero in the DC Universe.
