If you haven't heard about this movie, its basically aliens invade earth, most cities are overrun and California, LA is the last defense of the west coast.
The movie starts off with the audience getting to know the Marines. Its nice to get to know them and it creates a connection throughout the movie. The main character is SSgt. Michael Nantz, he is quite boring and the supporting roles steal the show. Of course, Michelle Rodriguez plays her typical tough person role.
The plot has some holes in it but it doesn't distract from the experience too much (What do you really expect from what I believe is a big budget movie?). There's a mech battle scene and a fun boss battle scene which is probably the most entertaining part. The battles are broken up by moving to a location and dialogue between the characters and really isn't anything spectacular.
My biggest complaint is the camera work. Its the Cloverfield kind of shaky camera work that makes everything harder to see. It's quite annoying and its throughout the whole movie. Even through the dialogue. I get its trying to be realistic but it's really annoying during the dialogue.
In conclusion its not a new District 9 or anything but its fun to watch with friends. The kids will love it too (Keep in mind its rated PG 13 in the US).
