If you haven't heard about this movie, its basically aliens invade earth, most cities are overrun and California, LA is the last defense of the west coast.
The movie starts off with the audience getting to know the Marines. Its nice to get to know them and it creates a connection throughout the movie. The main character is SSgt. Michael Nantz, he is quite boring and the supporting roles steal the show. Of course, Michelle Rodriguez plays her typical tough person role.
The plot has some holes in it but it doesn't distract from the experience too much (What do you really expect from what I believe is a big budget movie?). There's a mech battle scene and a fun boss battle scene which is probably the most entertaining part. The battles are broken up by moving to a location and dialogue between the characters and really isn't anything spectacular.
My biggest complaint is the camera work. Its the Cloverfield kind of shaky camera work that makes everything harder to see. It's quite annoying and its throughout the whole movie. Even through the dialogue. I get its trying to be realistic but it's really annoying during the dialogue.
In conclusion its not a new District 9 or anything but its fun to watch with friends. The kids will love it too (Keep in mind its rated PG 13 in the US).

haha weren't lying about the quick part, huh?

From what I've seen of the trailer and press, you've said all that it warrants. I think I'll avoid this one, and aaron eckheart deserves much, much better.

Are the effects any good? Shakycam always gives the best results when it comes to effects, I've always found

[[edit]] and apparently I've been able to comment whilst the review has no views. I defy your earth "physics"!

There's alot of explosions and it looks nice. Well the effects during the battle scenes are fantastic but a tad too much smoke (You'll know when you watch).

This movie was god-awful in my opinion.

Just saw it today and the Special Effects, Dialogue, Acting, Plot, Sub-Plots, Camera, and just about everything was horrible.

The only actors who pulled their weight was Harvey Dent and the little kid, Hector.

My two cents.

I saw it today. It was pretty great, although some things were never used, like the oppurtunity to actually sympathise witht he aliens, which they did slightly at some points, and also they never explained the aliens.

To be honest, compared to many alien invasion sci fi movies, if not most, it was good, most alien invasion movies are pretty rubbish, in fact I enjoyed this movie, thought it was superb. Yeah, the acting could have been better, the plot could have been thickened and some of the effects, but all in all, I thought it was quite a good movie considering there's been some pretty dry and uninteresting ones lately.

Awful movie**, and from what I hear, awful game. I'm not ven going to bother with the game.

**If you are a casual movie-goer then I could see how you could enjoy this movie, and there's nothing wrong with that. But for anyone who knows anything about film, its garbage.

...boss battle scene? In a movie?

Does the audience get to play?

I just watched it. i gotta say... i loved it. for everything it offered. from making the marines more personable and realistic as opposed to badass meatsacks waiting for their death scenes like i see in a lot of military or squad based movies. The fog of war was only slightly annoying to me but then i figured its to give the illusion like your seein what the marines are seeing. I also liked that this wasnt yet another alien invasion movie in which the aliens need something from our bodies. whether its just the whole freakin thing in general(war of the worlds) or our brains(skyline....freakin skyline. ugh) You hear a scientist on a newscast or whatever kinda explain it. but i gotta say..i had and have no desire to sympathise with the aliens. they needed our stuff. they know they are more technologically advanced. shoot first. take stuff. no talk. leave. no more no less. slaughter the lower tech culture. like vermin. take what they need. simple.

dialogue.hrms.. i know many many people that talk alot like the people in the movie. matter of fact i live next to a military base that sees every branch of the US military come through. and i swear to you that i could look at the marines in that movie and see customers that come into my work. makes it more believeable to me. maybe im alone on that.

the game. played the trial on xboxlive arcade. its not complete crap. ive played worse. but yeah. i wouldnt buy it. ever.

I saw it today hoping to see a "cool" action movie. It was extremely sub par. The acting wasn't terrible but the script certainly was. They force feed every cliche you can imagine, and there wasn't really any big explosions to make up for it. Half the time you see aliens just running around and ultimately there wasn't even a very heroic "feel good"-ness to it. There was one scene like that where the sgt earned everyone's respect, and while "heroic" it wasn't even spectacular...

Ultimately I think you should pass and maybe go see that Nickolas Cage film instead.
