I'm very surprised Black Ops isn't using Battle.net, and I'll be even more surprised if a CoD PC game doesn't use it by the end of next year.

Considering how crap battle.net 2.0 is, please no.
Honestly whats so bad about battle.net 2.0?
It lacks a lot of features that battle.net 1.0 does. For example, chat.
Come to www.freegold.com to buy ALMOST free gold for Diablo 2!!!1111!"!1321
Yeah, we can survive without that.

Activision and Blizzard have been married for quite a while now and seeing as things are really starting to come (excuse the pun) together in the bedroom, I'm sure we can expect to see a child of pure evil and malevolence born into the gaming world any day.

Nail on the head there. B.net 1 chat was no glorious feature. It was about as good as WoW trade channels. Constantly spammed by bots trying to get you to buy gold and items from their sites.

Ok. How about we just all agree that b.net and steam are as flawed as each other in different ways.
I'd prefer one system (steam) that is accepted by most pc game devs (steam) and gamers (steam) and you can use the inlay in almost any game except Korean MMO's (steam)

So you know, let's all stick to the giant one and wait till ModDB releases Desura. And then flock to that for new unique and intersting indie games. :D

I was referring to the bold worlds. "Always been" is pushing it. "Best" is subjective at the very least. And "Free"? Well...Internet Explorer is free with Windows, but you'd hardly cite that as a feature.

And that's without bringing in controversies like bnetd, RealID, resource hogging, multiple player scams, no chat channel systems and direct link to Facebook.

While opinions are all well and good, it's somewhat disheartening to see it reported as truth rather than op. ed.
While I don't deny B.net has a few problems that need fixing. How exactly are the examples you stated a problem (Besides chat channels)? And where do you get the information that it was a resource hog? I run it using a stock CPU on a 5 year old computer and it runs fine. Also, what multiple player scams?

Battle.net has always been one PC gaming's best free arenas for online gaming
Citation needed. Three counts I believe.
StarCraft, Diablo, WarCraft 3.

Three counts. :)

I know you were referring to the bold words. "Always been"? Bnet has been around since 1998, that's as close to "always" as online gaming gets. We didn't say it was the best, Greg said "one of the best." Which is... also true. And it's free.

Everything in there is fact, even if you don't like it because it's in some way associated with Activision. As for your other things-

RealID - a good thing in its current implementation. Very handy.
Player Scams - happen in pretty much everything.
Chat channels - are being added.
Facebook - Also very convenient for people who want to use it. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.

Bad Blizzard, you already sleep with the enemy, don't let them use your stuff the next morning.
