Hey Escapists, I've been looking to get myself a copy of Battlefield 2 to get ready for Battlefield 3, and I've noticed that there are two versions I can get: the standard version and the complete collection version. The standard version contains just BF2 while the complete collection includes all the expansions. What I'd like to ask those of you who own BF2 is whether it's worth shelling out the extra few quid for the expansions. What are they, for starts? Map packs? Semi-separate games? And, if they are semi-separate from the standard game, how populated are they?

Discussion value: Have you ever been in a situation where you didn't know which of multiple versions of the same game to buy?

It is basically a map pack with some extra goodies. I thought Special Forces was worth it; it includes ziplines, grappling hooks, flashbangs, tear gas, and night maps. It all depends on how fun that sort of gameplay sounds to you.

Oh, and I've never really faced a dilemma like that myself.

I would say get the basic version. If the original isn't enough content for you, you can install one of the many mods out there (some of which, I think are more popular than the official expansions)

I say get the basic version.

I got the complete collection myself and I never felt the need to install the other expansions. I think you can get Armoured Fury and Euro Force off DICE's website for free now anyway.

Double check that, just in case.
