Battlefield 3 Beta Hits Next Week

DICE has declassified the details of the first chance you'll get to kill someone with a jet in Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3's [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_8?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=battlefield+3&x=0&y=0&sprefix=battlefi] open beta will start Thursday, September 29th for anyone with a PC, PlayStation 3, or Xbox 360. Those of you who bought the limited/Tier 1 edition of last year's Medal of Honor, or have pre-ordered the PC digital download of Battlefield 3 through Origin, will be able to get in on the gun-play even earlier on Tuesday, September 27th.

If you're a console user, DICE has confirmed that there will be no need to interact with Origin in order to play; the beta will simply appear as a free download in the Xbox Live Marketplace or the PlayStation Network. The PC version, however, will require you to install and log in to EA's Origin client to both acquire and play the beta through the application's demo page.

During its beta phase, Battlefield 3 will only allow the game's Rush mode on a map titled, "Operation Metro." As the single mode available to early players, Rush seems like a great choice. Described as an "all-out warfare" experience, Rush should do a pretty descent job of allowing players to toy with many of the weapons and vehicles (including jets!) that have always made the series stand out.

As with many betas, Battlefield 3 will not allow your amazing headshot percentage, or any other of your player stats, to carry over into the official release after the beta's end on October 10th. "We are still fine tuning the ranking system," DICE explained, "and we don't want to give beta players an unfair advantage when Battlefield 3 launches." The approach seems more than reasonable, but as with most new FPS titles, I'm sure we'll be seeing max level, fully-geared super soldiers just a week after launch anyway.

So either I get me some Xbox Live Gold, or I install Origins? WHY do I have to pay for the things I want? Oh wait.

Aaaahh. Was hoping for Caspian Border, got bored of Operation Metro during the alpha.

Hopefully they have polished it a bit better this time since it was very unbalanced.

And for God's sake, let me configure my keys this time damn it!

Its a choice between kissing the devil or listening to the song "Friday" on repeat.

Wait so does this mean people on the 360 and PS3 access the beta through their Medal of Honor discs, cause if so I wish I didn't sell my copy.

So we get a little less than two weeks worth of practice...

Sounds fair. Looking forward to the beta!!

Heres hoping it holds up in enjoyment to its ancestor Battlefield 2, the game that robbed me of so many hours and so much exam revision time.

I also hope its good so that my £5 deposit hasnt been wasted.

I remember griefing the aircraft carrier in the BF2 beta. When they allowed you to switch squad leaders while dead. My friend and I would go C4/Support/Medic some kind of combo and just pick people off, and load their jets with C4.

One of us died, switch squad leaders, respawn on the other.

Don't give me that look! It's a beta, you're supposed to try and break the game.

I will not buy BF 3 until a crack comes out that allows me to play it without Origin or someone proves to me that it can safely be sandboxed. I do not want the temptation sitting beside my monitor on my desk.

I value my privacy. XD

Very doutful. Contrary to many other FPS-titles, it actually takes time to rank up in Battlefield. In BC2, I have a "Score per minute" of 227, counting all awards and pins and stuff. It takes 5 400 000 points to reach rank 50, meaning 396 hours. Sure, I'm not really great at the game, but even the best players I personally know (and now we're talking people who get accused for cheating about five times a day) don't have more than 350 score per minute (even the top people of the global PC leaderboard don't hav above 370), so even for them it would take about 260 hours to reach max rank (which compares to playing for almost eleven days straight).
