This game literally looks like a map pack/killstreak expansion for Bad Company 2.

I see absolutely nothing new. Guess Battlefield has gone the way of the CoD. New game off the same engine every year, nothing innovated, everything simply streamlined.

I was really looking forward to this game too. Whatever happened to not being able to hit shit from over 100 meters with anything but a sniper rifle? If you played Battlefield 2 you know what I'm talking about.

Prone was necessary, defibs needed the applier to be in a stable, crouching position, every class had basically 1 role it could do. (Engineer was the only one capable of blowing up tanks for example)

Bad Company 2 was fun enough, but lacked the depth of the old game. They all carried C4, assault could restock ammo infinitely, engineer wasn't really necessary in order to kill tanks, the list goes on.

Oh well. I honestly think I might pass on this one. If I called myself through time 2 years ago and told me I wouldn't be getting Battlefield 3, past me would have thought I flipped my shit.

But looking at this stuff now, it's Bad Company 2 all over again. And that just isn't Battlefield to me.

Oh well. May as well go squeeze in some final Battlefield 2 games before even the chinese servers die :(

EDIT: Actually, looking at the airplane gameplay is kind of cool. I guess they did do some stuff right.

Oh and one final gripe, I miss the sprawling, massive maps. Remember maps like Daquing Oilfield and Dragon Valley? That was the shiz. I don't understand why they got rid of them in favor of these linear, 2 spots blow up then go onto the next 2 spots. It feels like a campaign level.

OHNOANOTHEREDIT: And nevermind, I was watching console gameplay. PC looks way more promising. If they can bring the huge maps and massive player battles back, I guess it's worth trading off for the whole specialized roles and whatnot.

Uhm, if the engineer was the only one you ever saw blowing up tanks, you had some awesome engies and some terrible Anti Tank players. Yes, there is a specific anti-tank class -- they're the guys with the rocket launcher. Also, BF2 allowed for some pretty crazy long range shooting, even without the sniper rifle, so I'm not really sure where you're going with that, either.

Really? I honestly do not remember anyone but engineers and other vehicles being able to blow up tanks and APC's. My memory may just be fuzzy.

As for the long range shooting, I suppose it did, but that was provided the guy had no idea where you were, you were prone, camouflaged, and you knew how to compensate for distance. Getting a kill felt awesome, getting 10 in a row meant you were god.

In these newer installments it just feels so much easier. Run, aim, shoot, duck, heal, pop up, aim, shoot, kill.

Also jihad jeep.

Jihad Jeep is a proud tradition going back to Battlefield 1942, though. I see what you're saying with the rest of it; the aiming mechanics in BF2 were pretty whack, and it's in large part because the bullets didn't actually zero where they should have on the iron sights; there's a set of diagrams out there that show exactly what pixel of each gun's sight the bullets go to, and it's usually somewhere off to the side. Battlefield 1942 was actually much easier to aim in, because it didn't have that problem.

I agree. But that to me just added satisfaction. Getting a drop shot sniper kill was friggin impossible at distances, but you just felt like such a badass on top of that one high as hell crane, since the other team couldn't hit you unless they had snipers of their own, AND they knew you were up there.

I'm probably just being bitter but I really miss the feel of battlefield 2. The servers I loved playing on have all died, there's nothing left for me but 250 ping servers in some foreign Chinese mountain. Probably training for the invasion.

Also, wtf happened to jihad jeep? In Bad Company 2 it got patched up or something. I just remember trying to do it, and my C4 not wanting to go off.

I don't know much of anything about the Bad Company games, since I've never played them. As for BF2, assuming you want a server with an active community that enforces team play (you know, squads and commanders), and also doesn't go crazy with server-based rules (if it's a part of the game, it's legal; attacking un-caps is only discouraged if the server is almost empty and they're trying to fill it up, and the only really easy way to get kicked (aside from blatantly cheating) is to refuse to join a squad), check out the server run by http://www.teamplayergaming.com. They also have servers for quite a few other games, including TF2, Bad Company 2, the Project Reality mod for BF2, and (soon) BF3.

I'm sat here eagerly awaiting for it to come online. Really wish the conquest gamemode was available though as that's what Battlefield is.

To preface my reason for quoting this, let me just say that I only played Battlefield 2 for a little while, and Bad Company even less. So I'm not sure how accurate or valid most of your other claims are. But when I saw this, I kind of had to say something.

You CAN hit things at 100 meters with a rifle. You can hit things over 100 meters with a rifle.
I have a shotgun that can hit targets at 50 meters. And those things drop like a stone after 150 feet.

So a rifle's bullet can quite easily make it 100 meters and beyond.

Accuracy might suffer with the wrong optics, or high winds, but the fact is: It can happen.
And the guys everyone plays are 'highly trained soldiers', so it's not like it's unrealistic.

Unless you were just complaining about it as a gameplay mechanic, not a realism thing.

Then carry on.

Lol nonono.

I was referring solely to the gameplay mechanics. I have gone shooting before, so I am aware of the fact that many automatic rifles are capable of hitting impressive targets so long as wind isn't too bad. I mean if I was complaining about the game being unrealistic when compared to real life I don't think Jihad Jeeping would be something I would bring up :p

My complaint was based on the fact that in order to hit things from a distance in Battlefield 2, it required patience, experience, and a gun capable of doing so. In Bad Company, I was running around, shooting shit while parachuting out a helicopter, spraying my M60 while running directly at the enemy, stuff like that.

It was fun, but I want it to be a separate entity from the Battlefield series. Kind of like how Battlefield 2 on the consoles was radically different than the PC version, but with its own merits.
