Battlefield 3: To Hack Or not to Hack?

I'm having A little ethical showdown.
my friend in ukraine contacted me through skype & said some older students in his school are, well,making a hack to trick Battlefield 3 to think that you have direct X10/11 and windows 7.
he says they are testing it on just cause 2, which cant work on Xp, and that it causes a crash every 10 minutes so they are ironing out the bugs. so should i hack the game or upgrade as i intended too?

i do have the amount of finds ready to upgrade. i already have the windows 7 case gathering dust back there.somewhere

Its really up to you, Personally I would just update it. Windows 7 its better then XP in my opinion and it seems right to upgrade if the game wants you to probably for techy reason. However moral wise as long as you buy the game you should be able to keep your morales intact.

Just upgrade your PC, it'll be hella lot easier than trying some hack which probably needs to be updated constantly to all the BF3 patches, plus there might be several glitches and bugs in the game if you're using it, etc. Also W7 is a great OS and theres gonna be a lot more games in the future that wont support xp, its just a lot easier to upgrade.

If they can make BF3 work on XP then more power to them. Whilst it may have been beyond Dice's budget to do so if they can make it work why not? Enterprising ameteurs always make the best updates.

I don't get the dilemma - OMG! You could play a game on a system that doesn't support it?!?! WTF NO WAI! So? No-one cares if you're buying the game. It's not likely to work well and will probably look crap-ish, but whatever.

If you can get 7 then do so - it's a great OS, works a charm n all that, plus you'll be able to play BF3 natively, which is always going to give you better performance.

Could you send me the files for the Just Cause work around when it's finished? I have a copy of Just Cause 2 (was a gift) but I can't play it because I have XP.

I've heard of this, its basicually taking DX10 and forcing it into winXP.
or at least, that's the reasonable way to do it.
too bad BF3 is using D3D11 mainly, so getting it running on winXP is going to be a very unique challenge.

Really? I mean, it's a modified exe to allow the game to run on different software - how does that 'ruin your fun' and give you an excuse to hate someone?! There's a bit of difference between wall hacks and aim-bots, and no CD cracks and compatibility fixes. You would do well to try and understand that.

Question: If he'd used the term "Mod" instead of "Hack" would you have flipped out?

OT: I've had to mod things for backwards DX compatibility in the past, never done it with an OS though.

If they can make it work well enough to enjoy it then fine! Saves you some money for a bit, maybe enough time to save up for an even more powerful replacement. Otherwise, two options: hold off buying the game or upgrade to W7 now.

I find myself wondering if XP will support enough ram for battlefield...

If that's possible, which I'm doubting because the game simply won't have DX9 which means it's more likely that they'd need to hack windows to think it has DX10 or maybe hack DirectX itself to run DX9 when it calls for DX10... eh I don't know I'm obviously not an expert but it seems unrealistic.

Anyway, Win 7 is a very nice upgrade from XP and I'd say do it at your earliest convenience. I do not understand this, though:

Now if you are "hacking" to make this game playable on your system is your goal, and they arent ever going to make this game playable on your system, then i see little harm in what you are doing, as you are still buying the game, thus the beast is fed and i dont see any harm done.

If you are hacking this game so that you can be "super l33t" and give it away for free to everyone that has a copy of XP for the Lulz, then i'd say go fuck yourself.

Or even better if you and your friends are doing this, then showing MS, EA, DICE, and saying look what I did, you should give me a job, more power to ya.
