As one of the forum posters, daltob to be exact in the Battlefield 3 to be ported to console topic said that Battlefield 3 with Frostbite 2 will not support XP or DX9, only DX11.

I checked it up on google and I found it out to be true, Battlefield 3 will only support Vista, Windows 7, DX11 and DX10. I find this suprisingy seeing as a lot of people are still XP (7 here myself.) and couldn't this cut into the PC sales for the game?

What do you guys think?

why do we have to upgrade to a PS3? my PS2 works just fine, why'd they stop making games for it? upgrading to a new console is so expensive, they should just keep making everything for my PS2
Please let that be sarcasm.

OT: I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.

I keep getting tempted and try to get more into PC gaming as I do sincerly see it as surperior in alot of aspects however the required investments are just to much for someone like me, and now that they want to me buy a whole new operating system im just not sure if i can take the leap again.

Herp de derpy derp let's take a perfectly good pc game (battlefield 2 ) that even has a huge mode called Project Reality made that kicks today's MW2's ass around the block, turn it into a console game ported for the PC so it can have shitty controls, slow moving camera for mouse users and weapons that clearly don't belong in a Battlefield game.

Fuck you Developers for ruining another great franchise.

I have windows 7 anyway so I like the fact games are finally going to run better now that they only have to write for a single code path.

Come on people Vista didn't sneak up on anyone it was released worldwide on January 30, 2007

it will be 2011 by the time battlefield 3 is out, so 4 years

you can pick up a copy of windows 7 for about £50, making it about one of the cheapest things you could ever upgrade in your computer

this is why console gaming is so much easier. i salute you PS3 and i also salute my fellow consolers on the 360, thanks for our dedicated, purpose built and user friendly software

You do know that your consoles use DX9 only?
And that we have been using XP for 9 years. Thats almost 2 console generations.
And I can run almost all XP games on a Windows 7.

But you guys are doing something useful, optimization. Many game engines aren't optimised. To make them work on a XboX devs understand that optimization > Crysis graphics. Source engine and ID TECH 4 are very well optimized. So are most console engines.
So in mu mind devs should start shelling money for optimization rather than graphics. Metro 2033 was realtively optimized, but it could have been better.
L4D2/Wolfenstein look fucking incredible when we consider the requirements. We have to thank cansoles and those tech geniuses at Valve/Id.
they said that becuase, BF3 will be for console so now they don't need to upgrade thier PC.

I think it's a good call. DX9 is getting dated. DX10 even runs smoother now. It isn't the first time a company has ditched the old to utilize the new.
yeah same, ppl really need to move on and go to 7.
erm why?
becuase we can't stick with xp forever.
Thats the beautiful thing about PCs WE CAN just about every operating system is emulatable once the technology makes a jump, DOSBOX is far more stable then the original dos systems ever where for one.

If your gonna PC game, your gonna have to upgrade. It's not like its hard, just safe up some money, go buy it from a store, shut up, and install.

If XP users can complain about no support anymore, can I complain that they don't support Windows 95 anymore?

NO - because its old. Now STFU and give Microsoft your money.

It was surprising enough that BF:BC2 did have support for DX9, I guess it's natural to evolve, but XP sounds picky IMO.

People should move on from XP.

It's old, And windows 7, Is honestly better.

They don't make games for DOS anymore, So why should they keep makeing games for XP?

If everyone still used XP then games wouldn't move forward.

People who don't have it should start saveing up, Because sooner or later games will only be released on vista/7.

If you're worried about not being to play games, You can play allmost all of them, If not, Virtual computers aren't that hard.

Times are a changeing.

I'm not really interested in Battlefield, and i will probably wait with the Upgrade to Win7 until i buy my next machine. I was never that much of a graphics lover, and DX9 still looks great to me.

The statistics in the UK are skewed; I know because we have to pay attention to such statistics in the business I'm in.

The people still stuck on XP are mostly people with work machines, either in or out of offices where they are stuck because their ICT departments have not yet made the switch.

Most (Most not all before you get all rararar at me) gamers and home users have made the switch, so this isn't a big deal.

So, if you do consider yourself a gamer and you're still stuck using XP... maybe it's time to move on.

It is time to upgrade, XP is seven years old. It is the equivalent to running 95 when XP is out.
Why is it time to upgrade? I just cant see what makes W7 soooo much better than XP that everyone has just got to pull a magnet over there hard drive, so to speak, and throw 7 on it. XP works fine for me, and windows 7 doesnt have any features that make XP seem outdated. So why do I need to buy W7 for roughly 150 euros? Because microsoft wants more money I guess.

But just saying "u need to upgrades bcuz 7 iz newer lolz" doesnt cut it. Half the people in this thread are just bending over, spreading there ass cheeks and screaming "Fuck me microsoft! Fuck me till I bleed!"
I just want to point out, windows 7 is VASTLY superior to XP, in almost every way. Not just DX11.

http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/windows-compared-windows-7-vs-vista-vs-xp-615167

TL;DR: Windows 7 boots up faster than XP or Vista. Opens files faster, transfers files faster (even over networks) it's the most secure, runs games better, makes them -look- better, and has better options for laptops. Not to mention the OS is more reliable.

It's not just because it's new, it's because it's better. Workflow is much more streamlined on 7, and really thats what you're looking for.

So by your logic, if something works fine there is no need to improve on it? Windows 7 is a much better OS than XP, can't say much for vista because I skipped it. Installing an OS is not hard, just get the right drivers and back up important files. Format, install, download, re-install done.

It is old, and old things don't last forever, especially in the computer world. One day soon support for XP will end, and games will be the first thing to go.

Seems silly, but 7 is a reasonable upgrade over XP so can't really complain much.
