You need to get new speakers or headphones. BF3 is the best sounding war game to date by far.

The gunplay is also top notch. Are you turned off by the recoil?

Stick with call of duty. It's definitely more your style.

Uhm he's right... also Battlefield 3 has one of the best (if not THE best) sound design of any game... like ever. The SP-campaign is kinda meh but that doesn't change it and the game beating everything out there in Multiplayer (you know... the thing all Battlefield games have been all about, seeing as the first 4 games didn't have any SinglePlayer at all) and they recorded most of teh weapon sounds at a live firing range and actual tanks etc. from different directions...

Trust me, I know. I've been playing Battlefield since 1942, so I'll likely be picking up BF3 when I get back from Uni and get to use the new GFX card I have.

You pretty much described the modern shooter formula, this isn't by any chance the first game of this caliber you played is it?

And if it's not, then what made the others stand out?
No it's not. Most shooters can set apart their guns and surroundings, so at least I have some idea what i'm doing, if only by sheer virtue of people i haven't shot yet.

Battlefield 3..I don't know, I just found it rather flat and dull. That and I don't understand why a big ol' sniper rifle makes the same piddly bang as a much smaller gun.
In real life, when there is a lot of crap happening, and a lot of bullets being shot, your body naturally starts to tune out specific frequencies of individual gunfire. The truly most honest way to tell what kind of gun is firing in a firefight is by how much low end ("bass" if you will) you can feel when the gun goes off, and how fast it's firing. I promise that if you go participate in a live exercise, that you will not be able to tell the difference other than those two factors.
So either turn your bass up, or continue to listen to how actual war sounds :)

..except jets, those fuckers are noisy and i'm glad that was turned down in the game.

I can only occassionally connect to games :(. It worked all fine in the Beta. I guess I'll try resetting my router before I go crazy. Is there another reason other than BF3 hates my internet and I just need to reset my router to fix it?
I rarely get to play games and apparently my battelog account isn't activated, but it is since I recieved the suppressed M1911.

i'm playing on a console, not the pc. My computer couldn't handle that game. Gunplay i don't agree is top notch, though I will say that the AI is great, very clever and very dangerous. but the gunplay.../shrug.

It didn't strike me as being particularly special. and The guns didn't have recoil..like..at all. Or very little recoil.

and I maintain: all the guns sound virtually identical.

i don't agree about the recoil. I use whatever gun i pick up that I fancy, usually Assault rifles.

and a game should be able to hold up on its single player. I don't play any game strictly for its multiplayer unless it's a fighting game. I play games because i enjoy single player experiences. the multiplayer should add to this, not be teh sole reason the game exists.
I'm pretty sure Yachtzee is 100% dead wrong with his "A game should stand up on its singleplayer as well". While it's true that if the devs are going to put a campaign in then it shouldn't actually be bad but BF3's campaign is not bad judging by review scores. It's just not great.

Multiplayer is where it's at and can easily be 100% of the reason why a game exists. Team Fortress 2. Most people love it and it was a multiplayer only experience for the first couple of years of its release. Every other Battlefield game in existence excluding the Bad Company series and some console expansions. Most MMOs are multiplayer only with the exception of a few like Guild Wars which allows you to enter instances with bots.

Basically there's a lot of stuff out there that's multiplayer only.

To be honest I've become really disenchanted with BF3 and MW3. Not because I'm against FPS, but because there hasn't really been a lot of motion in terms of innovation. There are slight improvements between instalments but at the moment I'm waiting for the next big game changer (No Pun intended).

I really have no intention on getting this game anytime soon, I'm kinda burnt out on shooters for the time being. In the mean time I'll be playing Arkham City until Saints Row The Third comes out :D

What exactly is the next "game changer" in your opinion then?

Holy mother of god. /thread right there. Seriously, nice work if you set that up yourself. I know there's some other forum where an official BF3 thread does something similar but still, good work. This is why I wish the escapist had reputation point systems.

I am NOT a Modern Warfare 3 fangirl, I want to make that clear. but I..well, I'm not feeling the love for Battlefield 3. My brother bought it and I tried it and well...bleah. The guns all feel and sound the same, aiming is a huge pain int eh butt, you die VERY easily, and whiel I can appreciate that in a game, they are expecting you to conquer far more enemies with far less health.

My objectives aren't always clear, I can't cook grenades (or haven't figured out how) and a lot of the game just feels..very meh. I hope that Modern warfare 3 isn't like this, Or I'll be disappointed.

anyone else feeling this?
I can honestly say I've never died so much in the first three levels of ANY shooter. Battlefield 3 is beating the snot out of me. I got so upset that I switched it off and played more Batman to cool down. So no, you're not the only one who feels this way. I think part of it might just have to do with getting used to the game. If you liked Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 (I did) then I doubt you have anything to worry about for the third game since they change very little.
Another little thing that's bothering me is the face of the player character. He looks ill, like skin is stretched over his face. It drives me nuts when we see him.

Also, your avatar is awesome. Rarity is the best.
