Battlefront 2 is lagging when it REALLY shouldn't be?

Last week I decided to buy battlefront 2 for nostalgia. And I've played 10 hours of it quite happily with no Ill effects. (My computer has MORE then enough power to run it)

Yesterday I decided after buying Alpha Protocol to play it. The opening cinematic lagged, but it went. After that I just got bored.

THEN I tried to play battlefront 2 again, and now, for whatever reason (I blame alpha Protocol) my game lags, the FPS is low even at the main menu!

Anyone have any idea why this would happen randomly?

System Specs:

Ram: 8 GB
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.2 GHz
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Graphics: 512 MB Nvidia 9800 GT
Hard Drive space: 931 GB

To check whether Alpha Protocol is actually the problem, have you tried uninstalling it and then running BF2 and checking whether the lag is still present?

It could be that Alpha Protocol uses a different version of the .NET framework (in fact it most definitely will) and installed a later version of it when you installed it.

You could try installing an earlier version like 2.0 here and checking if that fixes the problem (here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=19 )

That's just a guess though, I don't see why that would be the problem.

Before you download a new .NET framework, check what version you currently have, it is under this directory:

*Your hard drive*:\Microsoft.NET\Framework\

The highest version number you see is the one installed. If after installing .NET 2.0 and nothing works, just reinstall your current version of the .NET framework.

***EDIT***

After much googling I think it would make far more sense if the problem was essentially the same as the above, except you are using a higher version of Direct X that Alpha Protocol installed that isn't compatible with BF2, try installing DirectX 9c.
