Could we hope Disney will help resurrect it at some point? Or did they set fire to every piece of work they've done after cancelling it?

99% complete is utter hogwash. At best it was considered "Feature Complete" (a Beta, in other words). I distinctly remember the 1 hour long video stating that the game had a lot more work to be done on it, especially in the optimization area. All these things take a long time to do properly.

It could be that LucasArts was indeed very evil and even stupid with their decision,. Keeping in mind that we only have one side of the story, as anybody ever considered the possibility that Battlefront III was utter garbage? Has anyone considered that maybe a lot of content maps and basic gameplay was implemented, but the game simply wasn't pulled together?

I realize that LucasArts' track record is pretty garbage as of late, but the fact is we know very little of what really happened to Battlefront III. In all likelihood, we will never know either. I'm not going to say that more press on the topic of Battlefront III is bad, because in reality it shows that there's still a lot of interest in seeing a sequel to the series, but take this shit with a grain of salt.

HOW DARE YOU. Lucas arts deserves to burn in hell for giving this game the axe at such a late point in development. They wouldn't have needed a single cent on marketing as the game would've sold itself purely on the momentum from the last game.

OT: this sucks to hear about it being so far along and getting the axe, but meh old news otherwise, hopefully disney can find that data and someone with common fucking sense will want to fire it up.

Chances are that even if they wanted to and they stripped the star wars copywritten content out, they couldn't finish it and make any money off it now. It really depends on the details of their contract with lucasarts.

Wow, so I guess Disney is our last hope. Sure this is like using a defibrillator on a person whose been dead for a month, but if you believe in magic, miracles, and ice cream, the game may still see the light of day... or not. I don't know.

This is the single most depressing thing I have read in months, and I'm a nihilist at times.

If the project is going to get cancelled, why not dump all the work to date onto BitTorrent and let the fans finish it?

They should have put what they had up on torrents

They were getting canned anyway.
They would be in all kinds of deep $@#& if they put what they had on a torrent. Illegal distribution, copyright infringement, that would break all kinds of laws and Lucas has teams of lawyers to deal with this.

This seems most appropriate to me:

Man, I was looking so forward to this. Thanks for bringing up the bad memories, sheesh.

What's the bet that Star Wars 1313 is just a lackluster 3rd person shooter?

Because people only want CoD/GoW... Non-two weapon shooters don't test well with our core demographic. Fuck X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter, Fuck Battlefront, Fuck Rogue Squadron. No what we want is something we can market to the frothing-mouthed bro-shooter crowd. Slap something "dark" together that feels more like BladeRunner or Ghost in the Shell than anything in the Star Wars universe so we can slap and Mature label on it and sell it to fuckwit teenagers.

Space Combat? There hasn't been a successful space combat game in years. What do you mean that's because we refuse to make them? If they were successful then we'd make them but there are no successful ones so we don't, you fucking dumbass. What do you mean people want to fly an X-Wing? What the fuck is an X-Wing?

Fuck you. Go make me Modern Warfare or Gears of War using the Star Wars license. And why don't you re-skin Dance Central with Han, Lando and Leia while you're at it because who gives a shit? Fucking chumps will by anything!

Now piss off, I'm going to check out my new Disney stock while my secretary blows me. Fuck you.

"oops someone hacked our computers and stole the working prototype of the game, our bad."
Well, get hacking!

Sorry mate, but it's true. We've only got one side of the story. Battlefront III would sell, but would a massively scaled up version of Battlefront sell enough to be worth it? I have some serious reservations on that one. The Battlefront games are pretty solid, and they've obviously got a fan following, but it's no Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty in terms of popularity.

This news is 2 years old. But maybe Disney will give us all a christmas Gift by announcing it's resurrection!
If not then, they will just throw it in the Disney Vault full of Gold that only a select few get to go into to and laugh histerically at all else.
