I'm talking about the revitalized version. Haven't seen it (haven't seen the old either), it completely went over my head when it came out, and I haven't touched it in any way, thinking it was just another half arsed attempt at a series.
Now I hear it was actually good, a great science fiction series.
I was an excellent series with a catastrophically terrible final episode that undermined both what the series had accomplished to that point, and broke the series own hard sci-fi rules.
I loved it. But you do have to pay attention to what is going on or bits of it will seem odd or random or won't make sense. I found it to be quite dark, quite complex and have various themes and characters that are adult and multi-faceted.
People do say that the ending is weak. I disagree.
First two seasons are amazing but it goes downhill from there. Season 3 is okay and season 4, apart from a small minor storyarc, is bad. But the final episode is so damn shitty .. ugh, I wish I had never seen it =(
I love it. I cot the first season cheap earlier this year and I immediately went out and bought the complete box set. It's a darker and more adult Sci-Fi show that has some great story lines, suspense, and awesome acting. If you've seen Stargate Universe there are some similarities (especially in cinematography).

The new Battlestar Galactica is is the best SF series from the last 8 years (more if you rate firefly lesser then Battlestar)
Yes, the last episode was a letdown. But it still was a really strong and excellent show. On TV-torrents it still has a rating of 9.1 after 2400 votes
Now go sample that series and/or buy the Boxset like you will do anyway after you watched the first season or the mini-series that started it all.

I didn't find the ending to be that bad, it gave a complete conclusion to the story with a very frantic climax. Would you prefer they stopped at the end of the last season?
I love it, it's the best sci-fi TV series I think. The set pieces and fights can easily match most hollywood sci-fi with the ultimate coming in season 3 with the liberation of New Capria. Yes the final episode was a real dissapointment but for a show that lasted 5 seasons they maintained an outstanding level of quality.

I was in the same boat as you buddy. All my friends were talking about it and I watched it after giving in to the disdain I felt every time I had no idea what they were talking about. The first two seasons are excellent. But I dwindled on the third and now I really don't want to bother with the rest after catching inklings of what happens.
It is my favorite tv show of all time, I loved it all. I mean I loved it to the extent where when people said that episode was shit, I just couldn't see it.
That TV series also meant I have an obession with Tricia Helfer, and a man crush on Jamie Bamber. Oh and Gaius Baltar should in an award for most awesome person in anything ever (go james callis).
So yes, go watch Battlestar now. Right now. GO.
