Battletoads

So my housemate dug up his SNES the other day, one of the games is 'Battletoads in Battlemaniacs'. Anyone played it or the original? Anyone completed either? On two player we got to the first long obstacle bit (if that makes sense to anyone). Any tips or is it literally just a case of learning the sequence.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Being serious, I do remember playing the original Battletoads on my friends' NES when I was younger. And hating the bloody thing for being so infuriatingly hard. Those freakin' speeder-thingy sections...

Last time i played, i would get to Lvl7, Volkmire's Inferno (Speederbike 2.0)
I didnt invest the time into memorizing the last half of the course, before giving up.

Speederbike 1.0 is my *****. though.

I got as far as the level with the snakes and couldn't get further. The difficulty is insane.

I remember playing it and having a lot of screaming matches with my friend.

I only completed it by cheating because, honestly? How the hell else are you going to beat it? That game was ridiculous. That game tried my patience, and won a few times, and after my friend and I beat it we decided never again to touch it, not worth the hot crimson rage.

I played the game a ton as a kid with my brother. Single player we managed to get as far as the snake level. In co-op we'd seldom pass the speeder level.

I've never seen anyone actually beat the game in reality though...nor have I heard of anyone doing it without an emulator.

I did beat it on single player, once. Once.
Don't remember how I did it. I just remember slogging through it over and over and over determined to beat it.
I remember it being hard but not cheap to my young, foolish, mind.
