EDIT: I don't really need much more answers, I think I've got it. This thread can now die in peace.

Christmas is coming up, as we all know, and I'm finding myself in a bit of a pickle. There are no games that I want right now that are coming out this December. I'm not really interested in the Saboteur, and all the mighty Autumn releases are already bought, completed, and thrown away. I have no games to play this December it seems like, other than the empty promise of actually getting Shadow of the Colossus for Christmas, something I doubt will happen. (But I hooooope)

So why can't Bayonetta have a December release? I'm really excited for that game, but it's not coming out until the 8th of January, and then the winter-break will be over. I want it now dammit!

But this is not simply my hunger for violence and mild sexual content speaking. Wouldn't it make sense to aim for a December release? Lots of people are excited for it, wouldn't it boost sales if it could be bought as a Christmas present?

Is there something about economics I don't know or do you agree with me?
Maybe they couldn't print enough copies, or it wasn't ready yet. I am happy letting developers take as long as they need, I could care less how long I wait if the end product is all the better for it.
But it's been released in Japan. And it was released in October

So I'm not the only one who wants that for Christmas.

I've noticed a lot of games that are coming out early next year like Mass Effect 2

I'm inclined to agree with Gleifistus: It's not ready yet. Most likely all the translation hasn't been done yet.
Ooooh, translations. Did not think of that... Still, I'd appreciate if they released the games with a little less time-gap between them.

Chances are it is because they need to print off the localized copies of the game, print off the box art, and the instruction booklets and whatever promotional material they had for the game add to that the process of bringing them together. It takes time to do all that stuff.

Be lucky that US the release date is this close to the Japanese one. I thought it would have taken 6 months like it did in the bad old days.

Well, Aion had to be regionalized for North America, so maybe this does too. Remember that games like Pokemon are often released in Jpan half a year before NA.
True. I didn't think of that. Although it's still unfair that Japan gets it before me. All they did was create the game, we in Europe... OK, maybe they deserved it early, but I'm still a little frustrated.

Maybe translation or shipping takes time? If not by plane (which, admitedly, considering the size of the package, would be a bit odd) shipping across the globe can take months.

3 words, MODERN WARFARE 2. Weather the markets for these games crossover or not, many gamers only choose a couple of games during the Christmas season. Bayonetta, reguarless of a hardcore gamer's view, is not going to be a very popular game. If I didn't know games, and I walked into a store and saw: A sweet shooter (CoD:MW2), a fantasy epic (Dragon Age), or a girl who uses hair to clothe herself (Bayonetta), I would definitely not be choosing the latter. Let's face it, Bayonetta is not the mass hit that MW2 or other heavy holiday hitters will be.

It has already been released in Japan, because that IS the mass market game japan looks for. They are an entirely different market altogether. That is why it is out in Japan, but not here.

I dont care how long it takes. I hope to fuck that the stupid J Pop in the demo is not in the retail game.
Ha ha ha, you sir, are a man after my own heart with that sentiment.

I hated the J-pop in the demo, too. Music by the Genitorturers would be more appropriate given Bayonetta's abilities.
