So, right. I can't go for more than two seconds on the internet without someone jizzing all over this show. "Best show on TV", "Best acting", "Best British show" yada yada.

Now, I need to know why this show is so popular. I don't see anything, at all, special with this show. It just comes off as another crime drama (I know it's not JUST that), but only stretched out over 90 minutes. I've seen the first 4 episodes and I can't go any further.

So someone tell me why they like it, and why it's so good, because I can't find any reason right now.

Wow, you stopped after watching A Scandal in Belgravia? I think it's safe to say that you just don't like it and that's cool. I can't even watch regular, domestic television for the most part, so I can agree when you just don't "get it".

For me, I stopped watching Doctor Who simply because I got tired of the show almost always taking place in London. The old Who would at least take the Doctor and his companions to strange, badly lit worlds (with a limited special effects budget to boot). Then again, I'm more of a Tom Baker years fan, and no, he was NOT the first doctor I ever saw. The first Doctor I saw was John Pertwee.

I'm considering watching it, but the fangirling all over the internet is off putting to say the least.

You sound like someone who'd give Elementary a five star rating on Youtube and write a comment on how Lucy Liu was "the hottest Watson eva". I kid of course, I can't even imagine anyone liking that show.

So you watched four Sherlocks, but couldn't do the last two? Even though the next episode would have been the Hound of Baskerville, clearly the best of all Sherlock episodes? And then the Reichenbach Fall, the second-best? What a shame.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott are all really well cast, and the script is really good. Although at times it does feel a touch contrived sometimes, it's still a bit less dull and predictable than most crime dramas. I mean, the characters from most crime drama series are pretty much interchangeable, but you couldn't really get Freeman's Watson or Cumberbatch's Sherlock in another series without them feeling really out of place.

I liked it a lot. The casting, the performances and the chemistry are all top notch. I like how they didn't totally go for a realistic grounding of Sherlock in modern-day London and instead they went for a slightly wacky version of reality. I dunno, I see a lot of nice, novel ideas that may or may not pay, but I appreciate a definite improvement over time in the show and it's so much more interesting than other generic crime dramas.

I never got past the first episode myself, despite the obvious good acting and high production values.

My problem is I'm a fan of the books, and I thing this was an adaptation too far. I consider it an abomination of Conan Doyles's work, but that's just me probably

I didn't really like it. Mostly because I found it too hyperkinetic for my tastes. I generally like series that take their time with stills and a more leisurely pace (huge fan of Swedish crime series), that wasn't the case with Sherlock.

The other problem I had with it, was his constant "deduction", now I know this is sort of central to Holmes anything, but it still irritated me that the audience was barely ever given a chance to deduct anything for themselves, instead Sherlock is left to explain everything.

I only watched the first few episodes tho, it's just not my style.

I'm probably one of the few people who liked both Sherlock and Elementary. Sherlock was better written and better acted IMO. Elementary gave me more to watch. I just really like the character of Holmes.

God I hate this show. It got marketed to the shithouse down here, and literally every ad pre-launch was "Look, Holmes is quirky with shitty social skills, probably autistic but that's funny these days, I dunno, look, tits now!"

In literally none of the ads was there anything about crime solving or cases or anything. Fucking fuckidy fuck.
