Problem with statement: by dictionary definition [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/addiction], video games are not "addictive". Sure, you can be obsessive about them to the point of playing 24 hours a day, but you can not be addicted to them.Geekosaurus said:

Read the "Starving to Death" post. I know that there are addicts, but this will exploit the downside of a game and will likely generalise the entire medium as a "quick fix" for addicts.Geekosaurus said:
Panorama is meant for Daily Mail readers anyway. Besides people have been bad-mouthing the gaming industry for years and it's still expanding quicker than pretty much everything else. I'm not worried about it.
well, the media will keep making games look like the enemy as long as the sun shines, and I don't think anything could change that. They seem to be just looking at the extreme bad side of gaming, a side which barely anybody suffers from.
The sad thing is that most people will see this and agree without a second thought. Because that is what stereotypical people do who have never played games and have only been exposed to the media's bad portrayal of it.

That definition can be applied to some games like MMO's(most of them are skinner boxes). As they do tend to make a physiological dependence on them and cause depression when you stop them.Delusibeta said:

Actually it was kind of pathetic journalism. They were trying to interview a guy mid-Raid, and were making the point he was distracted and agitated by the questions.
Anyone who knows about games would be face palming, and anyone who's not into games wouldn't be watching it in the first place, and if they were, it's only because the TV was still on after Eastenders.
