You can't just choose to be awesome, in order to truly achieve awesomeness you must attain it naturally. You can't train to be awesome. You can't be taught how to be awesome. The only way to be awesome is to simply be awesome. This is not to say awesomeness can't be attained past the point of birth, and in fact a person is rarely born awesome, they in fact grow into their awesomeness. To better exemplify this point imagine a Pidgey, now at first a Pidgey isn't that awesome, sure it's adorable, but not awesome. However, as a Pidgey evolves it becomes a Pidgeotto, and later a Pidgeot, each different stage become more and more awesome. As you can see, Pidgey isn't born awesome, but it is born with the potential for awesomeness, as we all are, the only flaw with this being that Pidgey can train to grow, and become more awesome, while we cannot.
