After my mostly serious (and strangely successful) first attempt at a topic, I've decided to go with the requisite silly discussion this time.

I was reading the forums this morning (okay I was watching ENN, but the little 'latest posts' thing caught my eye), and I noticed a thread titled Girlfriends: Are They Worth The Effort?

This brought to mind something that has been bugging me since I first picked up an N64 controller (back in my PC days, I was too young to care). What things have GAMERS themselves said or done that has made you ashamed to be a part of that culture?

For me, it's questions like that one, for one thing. (Just FYI, my girlfriend and I just had our one year anniversary).
Another thing is people who play - and love - big-title FPS games; Halo, Modern Warfare, Gears of War, Counterstrike, etc... As far as I'm concerned, these people are the equivalent of Metal fans in the music culture. Nice enough guys, but dear God if you aren't a fan of what they like, do NOT start talking to them about it.
And just so I can ninja everyone who I'm sure will be jumping to post this, let's add in the preteen *insert your favourite cuss here* who clog up XBox Live with their squeaky voices and teabagging.

Yeah, I think that's enough for now, so let me hear it. What makes your faces turn red and your hands reach for something to turn into a lethal weapon?

To be honest when I first saw this I thougt it was something about constantly failing in video games or something....but whatever!

In video game culture or just normal? Video game culture I would have to say people who have 8 or so 80s in world of warcraft. They are usually quite nice people but godamn do they play too much...

Edit: Also welcome to the escapist, don't go into the basement [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/The-Basement?added=1], be sure to read and follow the guidelines and you should find were a nicer bunch than March Mayham would suggest.

I hate fanboys in general, anyone who takes that one game/series way too seriously and gets bent out of shape when anything is said negatively about it.

That's an awesome avatar BTW, and welcome to the Escapist.

Just the people who literally spend every hour of everyday playing xbox/playstation/pc/whatever. I mean there's nothing wrong with playing games but moderation is the key. You need more to your life than computer games.

I hate the console war type people, the ones who will defend to the death the choice they chose and find any excuse to slate the other consoles. Hate those guys, I got an xbox and I kinda want a PS3 but I'm not a fan of wii. Thats it!

It isn't an actual war c'mon!

I used to play modern warfare 2 but i lost heart and faith in multiplayer games due to the mixed formula of:
* nerd rage from americans to british (and vice versa to be fair)
* whiney little 12 year olds
* And people who take the game WAY TO SERIOUSLY!!!

i feel somehow ashamed of myself when i play a game how i want to and then have the rest of my team scream and rage at me because i didnt call them by their call sign "yanky bravo omega cumnuts leader".

I am thinking of getting back into playing multiplayer games because thats is a main part of playing video games that i'm cutting myself off from.

I don't know if there is any term for this or if I'm the only person who thinks this way, but I hate people who bring their lives into the gaming world (specifically race/gender/sexuality etc). When I log onto a game I want to play the game and have fun. I don't care who you are on the other end, just play the game. Sure we can joke around and such, but if you're meeting someone for the first time don't start telling people your life story.

It just drives me nuts when I joy a game and someone is like hey guys what's up, you know what I'm girl gamer and I'm proud of it. Yea what do you have to say to that? Huh? Yea that's right, respect me.
I'm sorry but I don't care. I'm playing a game I didn't ask for this information nor did I say anything to garner this information.
This also applies to people who come on and express their sexuality or other such info.

I understand that some people are proud of who they are, but you don't walk up to people on the street and say stuff like that, so why should you do it to random strangers online.

And with this problem comes all the hate and bigotry on things like Xbox Live. Which is followed by lawsuits against companies and so on.

It just shames/ annoys me to be a gamer when stuff like this happens and I just can't sit back and enjoy playing a game without crap like this popping up every so often.

Console war people.

There is no perfect console! I have(had) them all! I know of what I speak!

Seriously, I think these people just enjoy pissing other people off.

When gamers start flame wars over this game is better or this console is better. And when people make porn of games.

I can't believe I forgot about the console war people. I own all three current generation consoles, and while it's true that I get a lot more use out of my PS3 (God of War III, Heavy Rain, Demon's Souls) than I used to and a lot less out of my Wii (SSBB and uh...nothing else really), I still don't see why people support one side so heavily over the other(s).

Gamers who cheat on multiplayer.

friend: so do you people hack just to win? *gives disapproving look*
me: *facepalm*

This actually happens. Also people who want to beat the hardest mode & other stuff like this but get highly frustrated when they don't do it right. I used to do this on my consoles but now I'm mellow and know when to quit. it feels so much more, "karmatically correct".

off topic: Spell checker says phlegmatically is a word?
