So guys simple question, What do you think is your favourite location in videogame history?

Mine is the Ash Lake in Dark Souls, don't think theres anything else like it and it just looks gorgeous.

*I would include pictures but I'm a stupid and don't know how

I loved that level. It was... Moving, to say in the least.

OT- Anor Londo, OP, is where it's at. Such a pretty city.

Assassins' Creed II also gave us Venice, the absolute best city for parkour. Then there's Brotherhood having Rome. God, those areas are so pretty...

But use [] instead of {}

The second level of Halo Combat Evolved

The sheer mile deep cliff-face looking out over the ring as it curls off in the distance over your head, and crossing the narrow bridge across the river. Breathtaking.

I couldn't find a picture to do it justice, so that'll have to do. :(

I agree with the guy above. That entire area around that first town was gorgeous. But the elven ruins really did stick out.

I would say that Two Worlds 2 has pretty good scenery.

I must say that when I saw the second location in the sunset, my jaw dropped to the ground.

And say what you want about DA2, but those few locations it had were pretty breathtaking in some aspects.

Also, some locations in Skyrim, especially Aurora at nights is amazing.

I can't just pick one so here are some of my current favorites.

The fact this was done with just 9 full time devs and 4 interns is amazing

The locations in Witcher 2 were breathtaking. First time I stepped out from that tent and saw those massive trebuchet raining down hell on a distant castle with stunning attention to realism and detail, I was hooked. And from there things only consistently got better, that forest in chapter one is amazing!

Still my favourite area? Hmm... well, corny as it might sound, I really really loved Ashenvale and Stormwind from World of Warcraft. Both locations just absolutely took my breath away, especially as a longtime fan of the Warcraft franchise before WOW came along. That first time stepping into the Valley of Heroes and seeing the statues of all the heroes from Warcraft 2 flanking the entrance to Stormwind, with triumphant music playing in the background, was just so satisfying. And then with Ashenvale... well, just listen to this music!

Exploring the various locations in WOW was probably my favourite passtime while I still played. If nothing else Blizzard have some of the best musicians and level design in the gaming industry, though as of late I question some of their other elements.

Pretty much all the locations in the Halo games are gorgeous. The Halo rings themselves, the forerunner ruins and most certainly High Charity the holy city of the Covenant which I still think would make for the galaxies most kickass alien hotel.

Also the locations from Otogi: Myth of Demons can be pretty damn good looking too although that whole game was a work of art so it's not really surprising.

I thought the contrast between the beauty of Virmire and what was going on there was interesting.

I love the Citadel too!

Also the Illusive Man's office because, well I've never seen a better one!

The Ark in Halo 3

The original Halo, Installation 04

There's lots more but I don't wanna take up to much room.

Far Cry 3's Rhook Island, everything in the Baten Kaitos series, all of Dragon Quest VIII, Ilinalta's Deep (Skyrim) and the Sky-City Bhujerba in Final Fantasy XII (there's a good reason it's the focus of the title sequence) all come to mind.

The deserted world of FUEL

The map is absolutely massive, it takes over two hours to drive from one corner of the map to the other. It's also rather pretty. Unlike most racing games, you are not restricted to any track, you can drive off in any direction you want at the small expense of not winning. It's perhaps a bit of a waste using such a beautiful open world for something as linear as racing, but I love it.

EDIT I think someone should have mentioned Crysis by now.

Blackreach in Skyrim was gorgeous, IMO. I won't mind spending the entire game inside

What do you mean?

I do mostly like it because of how it looks.

As an OCD, "loot everything" type of guy I can agree with wombat. I spent like 6 hours in there (mild hyperbole.)
