Hey Escapist!
So, yesterday, I was wandering around my local Hastings (Entertainment store, buys/sells new and used merch) looking for a very specific CD-the new album by Four Letter Lie. I was unable to find it, so I looked around the rack and caught, in the corner of my eye, I saw "The Good, The Bad, and the Queen," the self-titled album by a supergroup formed by Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz, and Monkey:Journey to the West), Paul Simonon (The Clash), Simon Tong (The Verve, Blur, Erland and the Carnival, and Transmission) and Tony Allen (A drumming legend). I picked it up (the only copy, used, $8.50) and was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I'm a huge fan of Damon Albarn, so I figured I'd like it, but this was above and beyond what I was expecting.

Anything similar happen to you lately, Escapist Community?

Well I don't know if it was a pleasant surprise as much as a blessed miracle but I had to hand in a script for my Tafe writing class and over the course of the two weeks leading up to it I had had so much on my mind including a media filming camp that I had completely forgotten about it. So when I heard I had to have a script or failure I was terrified for my life, however it seems I was not the only one who was unable to sort out his priorities because a lot of other kids had the same problem and so now I've been given an extra week.
I am quite relieved as you can imagine, though the classmates who had stayed up until 1 A.M trying to do last minute touches were understandably a little miffed.

Also.... FOUR THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED POSTS!!!

Lately... no I can't think of anything. Strange that, usually there's a lot of pleasant surprises in my life.

The government gave me a cheque for $150. Free money is always a good thing

Congrats. On the epic beard portion that is :p

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when after my car dies twice while driving it. I managed to keep it running long enough to get to the mechanic. I'd say more but thinking about it puts me in an intense rage.

I was pleasntly suprised as to how good 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand was. Nevermind the story the mindless, shoot em' up, Gears of War chest-high walls gameplay was just excellent.

I went to this old style ice cream shop and ordered a Mango Smoothie, was presently surprised, it was pretty damn good. Better then other smoothies I've tried from more popular ice cream restaurants.

$100 suddenly appeared in my account the other day. It must've been my mom but I got no word from her. Oh well, this means I get to eat real food instead of noodles for a little while!

Just 10 minutes ago in fact, the new (free) heavy weapon DLC for ME2 got released. Wasn't expecting that. Unfortunately that means I need to start another playthrough to properly test it. Damnit Bioware, I've got uniwork to do. Put your awesomeness on hold for a bit.

In related pleasant suprises BioWares store got my billing issue solved in less than a day, when I was expecting it to take at least a week.

So yeah, Bioware.

The PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 actually letting you choose whether you want online activation that has a 10 install limit, or DISC AUTHENTICATION that DOES NOT require Internet, does NOT have installation limits and only requires the original disc be in the drive.

They not only implement the old system that works, but they let you choose between it and the newer system based on what works for you each time you install it.

That... is one of the coolest things I've seen a games developer do in a long time and I instantly respect DICE software massively for doing this.

Okay, maybe everyone else already knew about this, but I never did until I installed the game and the dialogue box popped up at the end.

Spirited Away on Blu-ray. Woohoo
Hell yeah! I may just borrow my cousin's collection of Miyazaki movies the next time I'm over.

Not pleasantly surprised, but Bioware just announced a new heavy weapon DLC (see Rhayn's post). I gotta finish ME1 ASAP.
