So, while this thread is ultimately being started because I suck and need someone to bail my ass out, this thread is for everyone who needs help or is willing to offer help in Bloodborne. If you're stuck on a boss, come here and maybe a fellow Escapist will help you out. Alternatively, if you are the bee's knees, post that you are willing to help others out.

To start it off, I'm sadly stuck on Rom. I'm level 51, is there anyone in my level range that is willing to help.

Also, for anyone on previous bosses that are for some reason within my level range, I am willing to help you out as well, just quote or PM me and we can try to meet up and do it up.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't get help just by ringing the co-op bell near the Boss area. It's been working so far for me. Not with Rom -- I beat him on my own *flexes muscles* -- but with other Bosses I've had no shortage of buddies wanting to help me out. And Rom has already become quite the infamous Boss, so I doubt you're alone needing help with that guy.

Anyway, I'm trapped in the nightmare that is Yahar'gul. God, fuck that place! I may have to call upon some co-op help there myself, or at least get summoned so I can scout the place risk free.

My character is in the high seventies. If that's not too far ahead (still not sure if levels have anything to do with it) I can try to help you. But here are a few tips:

Play the fight with someone else, obviously. However, there's an added benefit to doing this. Sometimes, the game will glitch and you'll see other groups of spiders just sort of standing there, doing nothing. Go kill them before you engage Rom. That way, when he teleports, he won't have the backup when he appears again. This only happens in co op though, not solo.

Next, stick close to your partner. Not right behind him or anything, but within a few feet. That way, you two can bait the spiders, so that when it attacks one of you, the other goes in for the kill. Get rid of them all before you even think of going after Rom. I have heard, though I haven't tested, that the lightning mace (Tontirous or whatever) can actually do damage to the front of the spiders, so you don't have the flank them.

That mortar attack can suck and die. However, I found that if you stay relatively close to Rom after his first teleport, he won't use it. Instead, he'll use either a shockwave attack, or he'll roll over and summon those ice crystal up from the ground, making them much easier to dodge since they don't track you.

Finally, that sword-that-turns-into-a-greatsword weapon is awesome. If you smack Rom enough when he starts to teleport away the first time, you can actually stun him, prevent the teleport for a few more seconds, and just wail on him. My friend and I did it and we took out nearly 3/4th of his health before he got that first teleport in.

I'm too high I think than most of the people offering help. I've been in the area at least 3 hours and only got one person to join my session. Then he died from the mortar attack. It's not a heavily populated area, that's why I came here to see if anyone wanted to meet up and help me in coop from here, or if anyone else was having trouble with the matchmaking in any other areas and also wanted some help.

But seriously. Fuck that mortar attack. I can dodge it until phase three, then one chunk hits me and I get stun locked for two more to kill me.

If you can get your character up to level 59, I can give it a shot on helping you. Like I said, mine's in the mid seventies, and according to the level measure formula that I checked, you need to be there for me to help. I'm done for tonight and tomorrow I work until three, but if you're still having problems tomorrow evening (say, around seven West Coast Time), I'll give it a shot.

51 really shouldn't be that bad of a level for Rom. The group I was playing the game together with were all around that point when all of us fought Rom. I do agree that her/his/its homing ice meteor attack is bullshit. Since it's just a crapshoot whether you dodge it or not, at least to me.

I can't help at this point since I'm at level 100. :< At Forbidden Forest NG+. I CAN'T WAIT TO GO THROUGH THIS BULLSHIT AGAIN!

Thank you for the offer, but actually finally beat him not even an hour ago. Tonight has been intense.

Also stuck on Rom and not getting summoned/summoning. I do believe it has something to do with people NOT WANTING TO FIGHT ROM again. Also doesn't help that he can come in 3 different flavors. Basically he can get better or worse with his Ice Barrage.

Rom is the spider boss in the moon lake, right? I watched a stream where the guy playing beat him on his second or third try. He cleared out most, if not all, the spiders first and then just attacked the boss' massive behind.

Tonitrous is indeed the mace you are thinking of. Any weapon can damage the spiders from any angle, but the fact it does electrical damage is what makes it so effective even against their front. To that extent, Bolt damage is highly effective against Rom. Even using bolt paper on a weapon will let it kill his spiders from the front in a few hits, same with Tonitrus in its amped state. Rom himself is honestly fairly simple, though his ice meteor attack can be rather annoying. There's no 100% guaranteed method of dodging it far as I've seen. Sometimes running at him works, other times you get hosed by it trying that. Personally soon as I saw him rearing back and up (his signal for it) Id just dodge side to side and back and forth, and pray that only one or two hit me.

I wasn't especially overleveled for him, though I had Tonitrus leveled as high as possible at the time (and my character is a straight strength build), but fully amped up I could easily carve near half his health bar before his first teleport. You can continue to wail on him until he's fully disappeared. Just be careful, because you might end up with two swarms worth of spiders, and they become a pain to clear out once Rom starts casting his spells.

If you don't have Tonitrus, just use the weapon you are most comfortable with and load up on bolt paper. Take out all the spiders for the first part. After his first teleport, take out as many as you can. You don't need to kill every single one of them, just enough to keep em manageable so they don't overwhelm you. After that, hit Rom and when he starts to teleport, beat on him some more. You'll have a bit of time to clean out the last few spiders before you have to deal with him attacking again. Also, dodge attacks are your best friends with the spiders as well. Most times, all you need is a foreword dash towards their side and the follow up swing from your weapon to kill them. Tonitrus or electrified weapons are nigh-instant kills, otherwise it might take just that hit or another to do them in.

I have a question, I'm using a stake Driver (for small targets, has excellent stun lock and speed) and Kirkhammer (for bigger baddies) for a strength focused character (has 30 strength, 16 Dex), is it safe to power these weapons to the end, or is there better weapons for those kinds?

Also, I'm now in the forse areas after the grand cathedral and finished (I think) the old town, I still don't have the tools to create a chalice, am I missing something?

Edit: should add I'm playing offline only, so I only care about for the main story.
If you've found it, I'd recommend trying Ludwig's Holy Blade out for at least awhile. On the one hand, a snazzy slashing sword ideal for swiping your way through quicker enemies. And with a quick motion, it turns into a bigger sword, ideal for staggering those bigger enemies, but with pretty good speed, reach and recovery. It might just be me (I played with the Kirkhammer a little bit, but never got really attached to it,) but the Greatsword part of the Holy Blade seems to be a bit quicker, and better in terms of post-attack recovery, than the big hammer, as well as offering slashing attacks that can help if, God forbid, more than one big enemy is in front of you. I started using it about four or five bosses into the game, never looked back. :3

As has been mentioned, Logarius' wheel is a great strength-based weapon (I think it also takes some stats from Arcane, but nooot sure, haven't looked too closely at the one I have,) but the only way I know to get one is to work through the Cainhurst Castle and Vileblood side-tasks. And it's rather on the slow side, at least when I swung it around it seemed slower than my Holy Blade. =P

What exactly are you missing for a Chalice? As far as I remember, your first Chalice should be gotten off the Blood Starved Beast optional boss, or possibly somewhere in the room you beat him, while Ritual Blood is found at an altar in that creepy... werewolf church, for lack of a better word, in Old Yarnham. With those ingredients, you go to one of the Chalice altars- I picked the one at the bottom of the path- and the option to participate in the ritual should come up.
