Sup Escapists?

I'm awaiting the arrival of an electric bass, my first musical instrument, and am unsure whether
an amplifier is required to use headphones.

In short, is it possible to plug headphones directly into the output jack on my bass guitar?
Please keep the answers simple for I have never picked up an instrument before.

That's an interesting question. I have bought a few pairs of headphones that are male/female for instrument jacks/.35mm headphone jacks. But usually I just plug the headphones into my amp with it.

Also, you may want to choose a better title for your post next time. This is a technical question, and I expected to give advice on playing guitar. (Not to mention that it would have been clearer to put bass instead of guitar, even though a bass is a guitar.)

Hope someone has a definite yes/no for you.

Yep there is a connector for it. Just search you're regular hardware store and search for

Such a connector, some headphones have one of them included.

Oke I read that wrong, yes with the connector I mentioned you can plug it in. But it won't sound like an amplifier or anything, you hear nothing. What you can do is buy a Micro stack, I have a Marshall one, but other company's could have some too. You can just clip it onto your belt and plug your bass and headphones into it and jam away.
