Please explain to me the concept of being alone. Or, should I say - YOUR concept of being alone. What does it mean to you? What's your understanding for being alone? Does it mean having nobody arround? Or having no parrents? Or friends? Or even a girlfriend, if I must... Find your meaning for this word.

For me, personally, being alone means having no one that understands you. Having so many people around you and yet none of them seem to grasp what you're talking abour, or your understanding of something and thoughts and feelings. Some people call it simply "being surrounded by morons", but that's not true. They're morons for me, bur for themselves they're perfectly healtthy-thinking people. My understanding for loneliness, or being alone is simply - "Alone in the Crowd". So tell me your "way of being alone".

I'll have to go with the op's definition.

Being alone doesn't have to be literal.

Like in that Scrubs episode when JD said "There is nothing worse than feeling alone. No matter how many people are around"

I like my definition of being alone as literal. I could say that I feel alone, but it seems silly to alter semantics for no good reason.

My definition of being alone is not being close to people, or having a lack of people in your life who you are close to say. I can be in a bar full of people but I'd still be alone if I didn't know any of them.

1. night is preferred because
2. I am not being bothered by anyone, and there is no chance someone will bother me.
3. I don't mind if theres someone sleeping in the other room, I'm still alone.

My definition is being in a room, all by yourself, not interacting with people.
That's the way the word was meant to be, so if you're going to use it otherwise, it should be called metaphorically alone.

What an "emo" sentence, gawd. Maybe they understand you, they just don't agree with you or show that they understand you.

Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine, people moaning "oh people so don't get me, I am so unique and individual, your all so conformist" No your not unique! There are over 6.8 billion people, nothing you do/say/think is unique to you, accept that.

Funny how the people who spew this are the same people who dress exactly the same? I bet most if not all have journals/blogs were they whine about there lives.

Alone nobody around, not having anybody to talk to face to face. (haha, how many to's in one sentence).

EDIT, Most of you seem to be confusing alone with lonely, alone is nobody around, lonely is feeling like nobody is around or nobody to turn to but there are people around you.

Now I just have to work out the difference between effect and affect ...

I'll go with the classic "you can be surrounded by loads of people and yet still be the loneliest person in the world". Fortunately I don't often reach that stage anymore. Usually one of my friends slaps me and puts a beer in front of me.

Don't confuse being alone with being lonely, or being by yourself. Three completely different things!

Aww man, you even ninja'd my example D:

Yah, I agree with this post, I sometimes feel amazingly alone, even in a busy street, or even with people I sorta know.

My feeling of being alone is when you have truly no one to turn to. No one to talk to. No one at all.

You could be literally alone, by yourself. Or you could still be alone in a busy area.

Either way, it can be overwhelming at times...

This, effectively.
"Being Alone", for me, means just that. Having no one nearby.
I know all too well the feeling we can get when I'm surrounded by people who don't know me, but that's not "being alone" (I get what you're saying, though.)

EDIT: I guess that, without looking at it literally? I'd have to agree with the OP's definition...

I can be alone in a crowd. Happens all the time. I don't really have any friends and I have no girlfriend to speak of.
I guess my definition would be that you have nobody that really understands and/or cares about you.
Whatever the definition nobody should have to be alone, but life is shit so people end up that way.

Agree with the OP on this one. Having no one you can talk to or that can understand you sucks.

I'd say the more literal form of "no one around to even see me". Usually being outside helps, it just gives you a chance to look up and feel the largeness of things. I like doing that, being alone, late at night and staring at the sky gives you a good perspective on how much little things matter.
