I've been working this job for 2 years, and my boss has been quite bad. suddenly i'm getting a lot of things called 'write ups'. They're really bad and I seem to be the only one getting them. I'm scared and frustrated as the things i'm being written up for are things i've seen others do, or things that would only harm me (and are done out of carelessness, like forgetting to clock in after finishing a break)

I'm scared as I can't afford to lose this job and I need advice.

Stop doing the things you're getting written up for. Change your work attitude and try to comply. If that doesn't fix it you may have a boss out to get you.

Don't feel bad though. I got kicked out a job after 2 weeks because the boss decided she didn't like me. I made one mistake and she considered it a good enough excuse to get rid of me.

If you are concerned about losing your job you should start looking for other work right now however. It never hurts to get a headstart on the job hunt. Trust me on this one.

What other people do is their problem, not yours. You're being careless at work, and you're not doing what's being asked of you - so do what's being asked of you. If you're unclear about what's being asked of you, then get clarification.

The good news is that it sounds like the solution to your problem is well within your grasp. You just have to do it. You want to keep your job? Then act like you want to keep it. Try harder. Do better. Stop being careless. It's all doable, you just have to apply yourself.

This. If you can turn it round then it'll go down well; show that you can step up.

Otherwise it may just be a sign that the job has changed from what it was or you've changed and it's time to go elsewhere.

I've often been the one doing the 'writing up', and it's often the case that a staff member gets the perception that they are being singled out when in fact I'm doing exactly the same with other staff members but they're not seeing that - because they've got their own job to focus on and don't see what else I do.

I say this because I've had exactly this conversation with people, and that's the answer I give.

Bias and favouritism is absolutely poisonous to a workplace and in my eyes it's one of the very worst things a manager can do. if rules aren't applied evenly and fairly across the board then they're not rules at all. If you don't feel you can talk to your boss about your concerns reasonably and openly then talk to their boss, if they have one. If you get the brush off from them then I'd say start considering alternative options, because that's not a good working environment.

And bear in mind, it's always easier to go to a new job if you're already in employment, so don't hold off on looking elsewhere whilst you're still working.
