Berlin Wall

I though I'd bring this up, as its a fairly important event in history and noones done so yet.
Anyway
Its 20 years this week since the Berlin Wall came down signaling the begining of the end of the USSR (ignoring Afghanistan). What changes do people think have happen because of it , or conversly what things do people think should have changed but haven't?

Well, lots of things have changed i think, the poeple seem to have more rights now i think.

Well, it was a great thing, seeing how this event made it possible for Germany to be reunited. (We're still working on the speech barrier between East and West, though... j/k)

Afghanistan was before the Berlin wall came down I think (at least the beginning of it). Well, I'm quite glad we're a fair distance further away from nuclear war at the moment (ignoring Iran and Israel who have much more limited capabilities).

I think it came down when I was like, 1 year old. I remember nothing, and history class covered very little of it.

Funnily enough i may be watching a German film about the fall of the Berlin Wall with my freinds tonight, i'll get back to this thread.

Fall of the Wall was inevitable. You can't separate nation in half and hope it lasts for long. You can't divide families,supress freedom of movement and expect it to be tolerated.

But thats the interesting thing isn't it, how little violence was required for what I would consider a revolution.

Oh well. It means that revolution happened how it was ideally supposed to happen. You see,in a perfect revolution,hated dictator just suddenly finds out that his iron fist is no longer his,and people simply will not listen to him. No-one supports him anymore,even his army,because he has zero percent approval rating.
