Transformers, because it's the only cartoon from the 80s I've actually watched.
Pretty much this althought I had watched ALOT of 80's cartoons.

OT: Dungeons and Dragons

It never seemed to go anywhere (like every other 80's cartoon), but the characters were varied and had a certain depth, it wasn't a black and white depiction of Good vs. Evil, and it didn't shy away from some fucked up things, like Hank's face melting off.
Didn't they turn the kids into the opposite classes that you'd expect them to be? Like, the bookish nerd became a knight instead of a mage, and the 80's All-American-Hero kid became a thief instead of a paladin or something?
I think they only did that with the little kid who got to be the barbarian. The nerdy guy did become a mage. His name even was Presto from the start.

Even though I was born in 1989 I remember watching this as a kid:

On the strength of the intro alone you know that this was going to be a masterpiece. I can even overlook the fact that in the intro the star gave Mario a fire suit, not invincibility. It takes something special to allow me to overlook that.

My only options are either Jem or ThunderCats, since they're the only 80's cartoons I've seen all the way through til their final episode...

So, I'll go with Jem and the ThunderCats... even thought The Mumra Misfits made the better music in my option...

StarCom, a series that was unfortunately cancelled after only 13 episodes. A show that, for it's time, had pretty nice animation.

Clémentine, probably not well known but it had a pretty dark and mature story.

Jayce and the wheeled warriors, again one of those awesome series that was cancelled before it's time.

Not always 'the best' but a very good one that no one else will say:

Always liked Buttons McBoomBoom (the cyborg 1930s mobster with the fedora and insane hatred for insects)

Best animated black character in the 80s? Probably. Best Edward G. Robinson Impersonator before Chief Wiggum (Big Boss, that is)? You decide!

The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers. Only thing it was missing was Peter Cullen.

One of the few cartoons I still find myself enjoying. And the music:

Still going to go with Galaxy Rangers on that.

I remember loving a lot of 80s shows... most of those shows didn't survive a rewatch as an adult, though..

I think the only shows I still enjoy, without the rosy glasses of nostalgia, are Ducktales and the real ghostbusters. The 90s really was a better decade for animation.

I missed galaxy Rangers but I have always really wanted to check it out.

May favourite shows from the 80s were Ghostbusters and Masters of the Universe.

It's out on DVD.

I loved Ghostbusters as a kid. It's one of those ones I sort of dread going back to for fear it sucks.

I think you wouldn't be disappointed, although you probably wouldn't experience the childlike glee either.
I'm pretty sure I am disappointing. :p

But the childish glee, I don't know . If anything can bring back my childish glee, it's ghosts.

Dragonball Z (it counts, it counts, it was first released in '89 in it's native Japan), for reasons obvious for anyone who's watched it.

Robotech, based on three different Japanese shows, hands-down. By far the best cartoon of the eighties that made it to Saturday morning cartoons in the west. Though I would give an honourable mention to Mysterious Cities of Gold.

I saw a few old episodes some years ago, and I still found Slimer to be amusing in a childish way. Good times.

That edit though, right? It wasn't Freudian, I swear! :)
Yeah, I don't really need highbrow entertainment. But some of those cartoons were really bad. I went back and watched Bravestarr. So bad.

Well, maybe not bad. But it did not age well.

He, Both Ulysses 31 and Galaxy Rangers were mentioned... So my job had been done for me.

Hm... maybe the Shoe People?

Just kidding (Man, sometimes i think the 80ies might be weird... but we can dump that on the fucked up older people who made that shit for us *g*)

So yeah: It's Ulysses 31.

EDIT:
Oh, the WHY? I liked the style. the SCI-FI + Myth. If the Intro begins with
"It is the 31st century. Ulysses killed the giant cyclops when i saved the children ands his son, Telemichos. But the ancient gods of Olympus are angry"
while showing pictures of an awesome spaceship, a dude with a rocket-belt and a light-sword (and an awesome Beard) and robots and aliens... and marble statues of gods...
It had great "inspired" isles = planets of the odyssey and this weird fantasy / sci-fi mix. Man i still remember the Chronos episode, where Ulysses is turning back time/fighting robots on a giant clockface while his son and the alien girl are imprisoned on floating island and rapidly aging / de-aging. That music... that was so epic.

Eh . here, watch the intro

I loved the hell out of the GI Joe cartoon (though the Marvel comic was sooo much better). I had almost every episode on tape at one point. Also I enjoyed the hell out of Captain N the Gamemaster even though it was super cheesy... I was right pissed off when the episodes of Captain N came out on DVD and the licensed music was replaced with crappy generic stuff. The 80's soundtrack just fit so much better IMO. Wish I could find copies with the original soundtrack but that won't ever happen.
Hmmm... most of the 80s cartoons I watched were dumb as hell, but still fun for a kid. But the king of 80s cartoons had to be TMNT. Two reasons: 10 seasons and James Avery as Shredder (some of the time). Because Avery was awesome like that.
