The Wall by Pink Floyd. Although, a lot of people think Dark Side of the Moon was better.
I'd probably go with one of those two, although it switches back and forth for me depending on my mood.

I'll list some that not everyone knows of.

Brain Salad Surgery by ELP
Close to the Edge by Yes
Highway 61 by Bob Dylan
Aqualung by Jethro Tull

Edit: Also like to add Let it Bleed by the Rolling Stones.

I can't come up with the best one of all time, it's impossible. I love too many different bands and albums. No album is perfect in my eyes, but some have perfect songs.

Perhaps some "controversial" choices here and a couple of Finnish bands no one's ever heard of but in no particular order:

Tool: Lateralus
Pixies: Doolittle
Aimee Mann: Bachelor No 2
At The Gates: Slaughter of the Soul
Radiohead: The Bends
Third Eye Blind: Third Eye Blind
Stars: Set Yourself on Fire
CMX: Aura
YUP: Yövieraat
YUP: Toppatakkeja ja Toledon terästä

And of course loads and loads more but there's my top 10 for the moment.

I have to wonder how many times this thread has been created.

I would say In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. Or Bone Machine by Tom Waits.

Depending on genre:
Thrash metal : Rust in Peace by Megadeth
Death metal : Everything Death did
Black metal : De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas by Mayhem
Progressive metal : Images and Words by Dream Theater
Speed metal : Ace of Spades by Motorhead or Welcome to Hell by Venom
Traditional metal : Paranoid by Black Sabbath or Screaming for Vengence by Judas Priest
Blackened death metal : Demigod, The Apostasy, Thelema.6 and Evangelion by Behemoth

Yeah I like metal that much.
Sorry, just saw this. You. Are. Awesome. :p
Im not awesome, I just know my tastes.

Note : Forgot to add a classic rock and power metal one.
Classic rock : Tommy or Quadrophenia by The Who or Led Zeppelin 4
Power Metal : Paradise Lost by Symphony X (They come under neo classical power metal though)
Groove metal : A Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera or Archetype by Fear Factory
Clarification. It's just great to see metalheads lol. I live in the country... I know three. One's my best friend, one introduced me to metal and my friend, and one is my girlfriend. And that's mostly my social network lol. Also, I would have said most of the same. :D Only you know my picks for Dream Theater and Priest differ.

My favorite album is Nevermind by Nirvana, though for best album of all time, I'd say Sgt. Peppers.

Slipknot by SlipKnoT - Because it is so creative and experimental :D I've grown a little sick of traditional metal, so I am listening to more creative music, like Slipknot, Korn and System of a Down :D

My first reaction would probably be one of those:
Tool - Lateralus
Sigur Ròs - Ágætis Byrjun
The Gathering - Souvenirs

But then I'd remember I hardly ever listen to those. Judged by how much I listen to it:
Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum
dEUS - Pocket Revolution
Cake - Comfort Eagle

And since I'm already having different lists, the best album of the last couple of years:
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
