Best boss was definatly in portal, i loved GLaDoS's lines as you fought her!!
The worst was bioshock... Dont get me wrong i love the game but the boss was pathetic! The Big Daddy's near the end were ten times harder then him, i hated how easy they made him

My favorite final boss was Lucifer in Painkiller: Overdose. He was a great finale to a great game.

My most hated was Ganon in the Windwaker. I remember playing that game for hours on end, having far too much fun, and having it all ruined by Ganon being a piss-easy kill.

Edit: Also, the boss in Chrono Trigger (whose name escapes me) was a real pain in the ass.

RAAM is the best boss I have ever fought, he was a bit of a puzzle at first, also on Insane its quite hard to take him down solo. The worst has to be Zacaith from Call of Duty 4. Don't get me wrong, it was a cool scene, but the actual fight amounts to you shooting three baddies in the back.

Oh yeah, and at the end of AC I like it how if you do the normal thing and counter, he falls to the ground, then teleports and you LOOOOZE all your health. But, if you just use normal attacks, all is well. Nice little touch (although I hated that last hour or so as a whole)
Yeah, about that... Hidden blade counter > every boss in AC ever.

OT: I am playing through I Wanna Be The Guy Lately, only fought Bison and MechaBirdo so far. Bison was pretty fun when you finally find the easy way to kill him. Stuck in Birdo at the moment. Keep getting unlucky with the warheads.

...there were boss fights in Oblivion?

exactly.
Why would it even matter?
Time limit for spoilers is over right? Good.

Remember Morrowind? Dagoth Ur, uber baddie in Morrowind is awakening, and only the Nerevarine can stop him, and you had to fulfill the prophecy, find Wraithguard and get one of the two uberweapons, Sunder and Keening, just to be able to hurt Dagoth Ur, let alone kill him? Then you had to go to the heart of his lair and kill him, then strike his heart down and run like hell to get out? That's a good lead up to a damn good boss fight that feels satisfying after you finish the main quest.

In Oblivion, a daedric cult murders the emperor. You save his only heir, whilst Mehrunes Dagon starts ripping holes in the fabric of reality, and his followers are trying to quicken his progress, merging Oblivion with the real world, and as you reach the climax Mehrunes Dagon himself appears in the Imperial City wreaking all kinds of havoc. You escort Martin to the temple, but there's issues here:
1.) Martin can't die. There's no worry about him being stopped. All you have to do is make sure YOU survive.
2.) You don't get to kill Mehrunes Dagon, let alone even fight him. Sure you can attack him but it really makes no difference. Might as well just ignore him.
3.) After you get to the Temple of the One Martin talks to you, queue cut-scene, main quest over.

The issue isn't that the main boss fight is bad, it's that there is none when all video game logic would lead you to believe that there is one. It's a major disappointment because the game makes a fantastic story lead into a fight that you only watch, and not participate in.

Spoiler for those of who are playing Bioshock, but the last boss is oh so very disappointing. There is only really ONE proper boss fight in Bioshock, minus the bastards that throw Molotov cocktails at you, and take over 9000 bullets, and they still managed to fuck it up.

Best boss fight for me was in Shadow of the Colossus. A very important story point happens right before him, and then he is just huge. He is a small living castle. Getting to him, figuring out what to do and how to actually hit him was all fun and just right.

Worst: Ruby weapon from FF7, it was just so frustrating, I don't think I ever did kill the thing.

Best fight, on the other hand.... Darth Malak in KOTOR 1. Fun as hell running around and draining the other jedi's to power yourself and stalling his game quicker.
I personally hated fighting Darth Malak. I was on my first playthrough, and as I always play the first time around, my character was heavily force-oriented. Darth Malak has major resist force abilities, so even my most damaging powers were ineffectual. Drain life was the only one that worked at it drained my force reserves pretty quickly. After that I had to resort to running around and grenade spamming like an idiot.

Anyway...best final boss? I don't know

Overall it's hard to pick for me, so i'll limit it to the game i've played most, World of Warcraft.

Best = Kil'Jaeden Post 3.0 Patch, level 70 group: Wonderfully balanced for me and my 24 buddies. 2 nights of failed attempts to get him down, very tough and challenging with minimum cheap tactics from the boss.

Worst = Algalon the Observer: I've not even fought the guy, very few have. But Blizzard decided to cockblock raiders by giving you a maximum of one hour per week to kill him. Once that hour is up, you have to wait until next week to try again. Justifiable ingame reason but doesn't change the fact it's a really cheap way of extending the life of the Ulduar dungeon, you can't spend your usual few hours on a night trying to kill him, you just get 1 per week. Especially bad for me as i learn more by experiencing a bossfight than reading about it.

Best: MGS4, I loved having one last CQC battle with Liquid, perfect way to end the series.
Worst: Lolo, if anyone played this game on NES knows what I'm talking about! If not then look it up and see what I'm talking about.

Yeah, but if do that your screen starts flashing and you lose all your health and BLEH.

Or, you can save up all your throwing knives like a cheap-ass.

Saren was pretty easy in Mass Effect. Well, if you forced him into a logical paradox and made him kill himself .

Worst- Guilty Spark at the end of Halo 3- there's literally no skill required.
1) Move away from force field.
2) Wait until African-American support character does the hard part, then gets killed.
3) Take aforementioned buddy's laser cannon.
4) Shoop da Whoop.
5) Repeat #4 until glowing orb gets angry and implodes.
the guilty spark was originaly going to just be a cutscene but bungie decided that players would want to finish it off themselfs so thats the reason hes so weak
So in the time they had left, they couldn't tag on a new ability or two?
You know, other than the "fuck you" push he does, when if you're not directly in front of the rear wall, you get pushed off the edge into oblivion.

I'm gonna go against the grain now probably and say the worst boss for me was the end boss in Bioshock. It wasn't that he was a terrible boss in an average or bad game, it was that he was an average run of the mill boss in an amazing game.

It was a shame at the end of such a brilliant game to have just a run of the mill, standard and frankly easy boss fight.

Okay, here's my worst boss ever, as in most annoying boss: Iskas in Suikoden Tactics for the PS2. When he's human and when he's a freaky fish guy.

First off, he was resistant to magic in both battles, which sucked because a good 40% of the good parts of my team were magic users because that's the way it set you up. Both battles, he has a bunch of soldiers you have to fight before you even get close to facing him, along with having to take out 5 rune cannons just to get over to him and get him to stop turning his soldiers into freaky fish guys (first battle only). Also, in the first battle, your job was easy, try to stay out of his range for a while. In the second battle, he was resistant to physical attacks as well, and cooperative attacks did absolutely nothing, so you basically ended up wanting to throw the controller against the wall. I was actually thankful for the cut scene after he died because he finally freaking died!

Okay, so that's the most annoying boss in that game. The actual worst boss was the final boss. You could kill him in one hit. It was anti-climatic.

Worst boss? I'd have to go with anything with a silly 'shoot me here' glowy bit for the morons to follow. Requires no skill or thought at all for killing them. So crap it just hurts, 'most' gamers have a brain so why not let them work it out.

Best boss? Hmm tricky. Again many candidates, its like trying to pick a best album. But Omega Weapon from FF8 is up there(especially if you dont have about 50 holy wars). Thaurlach in lord of the rings online, a really fun raid fight even with the increased level cap. Ruby and Emerald Weapon in FF7 were both great fun although a little easy. Every colossus. Psychomantis from MGS1 was genius, how long did it take you to figure out to switch controller port???

As for actual 'final' bosses (yeah i now this is he OP's question but its too hard for strictly final ones) Best: FF8, have to kill it like 4 times and it keeps getting harder!(alhough sill easy in comparison to hidden bosses) Worst: Gears of War 1 and 2. Just a total noobfest of hide until you can see the glowy bit. Utter shite.

Good Final Boss: Ganondorf from Twilight Princess and Ocarina of time. Both games handled the boss battle EXTREMELY well, I thought.

Bad Final Boss: Even I'm a Halo fan, and I agree with EVERYONE about this, but Halo 3's final boss was nothing more than spamming the Spartan Laser a couple times.

Runner up for this is Fable 2

Baldur's Gate had a terrific final boss. Like most of the other big battles in the game, it was up against a party of NPCs, rather like your own party. Ok, you only had to kill Sarevok, but if you didn't kill at least some of the others you didn't have a chance. It was a ridiculously difficult battle, but it wasn't cheap: you had to really think tactically about how you were going to attack them, whom you were going to attack first, and what spells you were going to use. The sense of accomplishment afterwards was fantastic.

By contrast, Baldur's Gate II's final boss, while still very good, was slightly underwhelming in comparison. Once again, you were up against a group of enemies, which made for a big, challenging battle. The problem was that Irenicus himself seemed oddly weak, especially considering how powerful was earlier (you have to fight him a few times throughout the game). I just hit him with a Breach spell and he was at my warriors' mercy. And yet, while he was quite weak, you have to kill four very powerful demons to be able to attack him at all. So the battle itself was still as good as the one in BG1, but the character who was the boss was slightly disappointing.

Final Fantasy IX.. after going through that fight with Kuja and thinking "Woo! where's the end credits?" and getting hit with Necron doing Grand Cross.

Oh shi-
