Main Offense: Being a complete dick to his son for all his life.
Redeeming Act: His tough love gave Tidus enough spite to finish him off when he became Sin.

2. Big Boss (Metal Gear series)

Main Offense: Multiple attempted murders of his son.
Redeeming Act: Gave his son a hug. Being the arguably the greatest video game character of all time.

GOOD:
Eathen Mars: jumped in front of a car to save one son, became wanted cut of his own finger the list goes on. He is one badass dad.
Jhecht from FFX: what a DOUCHE though I guess it changes near the end but still, he's a DOUCHE!

Worst Silent Hill: Homecoming, god fobids i remember his name.

He was going to kill Alex, drown in the river or something, then scorns him and leaves him for the monsters. But he kinda repents for his actions, so....

Best Saurfang, just because he got son and he is awesome!!

Best: Kratos! Sure he's killed everyone he has met (with the exception of the women he bones), but one the very few things he shows human emotion for is his daughter. He even sacrificed all of his power just to save her and almost went as far as sacrificing the whole world just to be with her, until he got some common sense and realized that sacrificing the world meant there wouldn't be anywhere to be with her.

Worst: I don't know, Dracula I guess. He wasn't particularly nice to his son in Symphony of the Night.

 

[The Youth Counselor]

Worst:

Professor Ort-Meyer (Hitman: Codename 47): Raises all his "sons" in imprisoned isolation to be sociopathic killers. Reconnects with his estranged prodigal son by sending his brothers to kill him. This makes him proud, and he shows his affection with a hug and a taser to the waist.

Kane (Kane and Lynch): Is barely there for his family while going off in violent mercenary missions and crime sprees. Gets locked up and his wife killed. Because of this his daughter grows up to be a mental wreck and hates her father. He goes through hell for her, only to set a shining example as a murdering psychopath.

Every single father from God of War: At first I was about to mention Kratos for murdering his family. Then Zeus for being a general deadbeat dick, abuser, and molestor to all his children. Then Cronos for eating his children and abusing their mother. But then I realized that most fathers in Greek Mythology were Grade A assholes.

Andrew Ryan (Bioshock): Enough said.

Best:

I agree with what every one said about Fallout's James, Silent Hill's Harry Mason, Bioshock's Big Daddies. And I wanna elaborate more on everyone's favorite: Eli Vance.

We all mentioned how much love and affection he showed Alyx, as a single father and widower. He was also a great role model and leader for not just Alyx, but all people. He lets her take acceptable risks to grow and help others but will use his authority when he knows it's too big of a risk. He also built a GIANT ROBOT to protect her, and let her play with the coolest toys from anti-gravity manipulators to alien crystal displays. He had a father's knack and knew the bad boys from the good catches. But what really moved me and showed us his love was at the end of Episode Two:

Even when he knew he was about to die, he was more concerned about Alyx seeing it happen and how this would affect her. Even with his frail age and disability he tried to physically fend off a foe to protect his daughter and friend, if nothing but to buy more time.

Loghain from dragon age, fucking control freak killed his son in law(who was himself a massive dickhead but still)
that drunken dwarf from DA, he is to busy sulking in self-pity to care for his kid
adam fenix, GoW iss full of hollow cardboard characters but he was still a dick for NEVER being there for his son. Maybe i can just relate to that.

Kratos was a pretty terrible father, murdering his family and all that. Sure he didn't WANT to but that's one hell of an accident.

He tries to teach his son that he can do anything he wants with his life, which just makes the outcome all the worse. He may have been able to pass on his moral code, but his son is doomed to live the same life that he did as an outlaw.

I'll agree with you on Eli Vance, but I would have put James from Fallout in the Best column. He raised you up until the point where you could survive on your own, then went off to make the world better for you at any cost. The various tapes left by him show that he loved you very much.

He's also Liam Neeson, another reason to be in best

Worst:

Zeus (God of War)
After stabbing you, chucking you off the highest mountain ever made, killing his own father, not seeming to give a toss when you keep killing his children, all of his brothers and his own wife. He comes off as the god of lightning, olympus, and dickheads.
