alot of the time...Remixes are kind of "eh" they eather butcher the original or they don't do anything particularly good with it

however like any rule there are exceptions, which remixes do you find better than the original?

Being a fan of Glitchmob this is one of my favorites

another one that works better me (remix by kavinsky)

as for the worst

here's the original....from the offset obviously its not going to be to everyones taste, what with the dubstep wubs and the use of chipmunk voice, personally though I find it a nice enough dubstep track

here is the remix by Nero and Skrillex..and (like most misleading dubstep songs) its start off great...it builds up and you can feel your soul being lifted to the clouds and then

DRUM AND BASS AND WUBS ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!! aaaerrrrrrgghhhhh! I'm being assulted!

I got the same feeling about the track "Bombers Over Ibiza" from The Dark Knight Rises Soundtrack. In fact my friends and I now have a phrase just for that: "Good Music.exe has stopped working."

So my bad remix is obviously the aforementioned DKR track. Good remixes on the other hand? Tron Legacy: Reconfigured is full of good ones.

Like this:

Original:

Ehh, it's ok, nostalgic and all that...

Remix:

So awesome. Dunk those rudelords son!

There are a few bad remixes of the SJ theme. Like the one where they mashed the signature TTGL soundtrack and this together... So bad. It should have been good if there was any time or care spent over it. :/

Personally I just like seeing how many B-balls and Jordans people can shop in.

OH! I remember one.

Almost better than the original... Almost.

Oh and the UMVC3 Turnabout Mode theme. It's an offical Cornered techno remix. Capcom you beasts.

Time running out? Rest of the team dead? Faced with a Wesker/Doom/Ammy combo rushing you into a corner?

"Objection! I've got all I need!"

DOWN!
DOWN!

"The one who actually commited the crime... Was you! No alibi, no justice, no dream, no hope! It's time to pay for your crimes! TAKE THAT!"

HYPER COMBO K.O!

Imma leave this completely unrelated video here...

Worst: All the covers/remixes of Rammstein on Made in Germany album. Some of their best songs butchered by people who really ought to be able to do better.

Example
Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5dm7AYZ-tg
Remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYmXwvfEReA

Best? Well, I don't think best, but the remix I've been listening to the most recently is Steve Aoki's remix of "Pursuit of Happiness" by Kid Cudi.

And for the worst, here's a guy who played "Sail" by AWOLNATION and "Kill Everybody" by Skrillex together with no editing or even changes whatsoever. Watch as this douchebag thinks he's actually a DJ.

I really hope he's trolling.

MGMT and Justice are just awesome together.

And this was made by a very talented 16 year old kid for a contest to remix a Deadmau5 track. Pretty sure he's 17 now and touring the world.

Can't say I've heard any bad remixes but if I think of one i'll post.

I wouldn't say any of these are better, just different versions of the songs I can equally enjoy.

It's a tad hard for me to pick a "worst" remix, as I tend to quickly forget them (purposefully) after I hear them.

Good ones though, that's easy.

OriginalRemix

OriginalBear McCreary cover, so not really a "remix", but close enough. Besides, a remix is just a cover of another song.

Do you mean this one? -

The one that was remixed by Junkie XL and Hans Zimmer? (They both worked on the original score for the film.)

I mean, I'm not really a fan of bro-step either; like that of Skrillex, Nero, and others; but this remix is still pretty good. Besides, it's barely even dubstep, let alone bro-step. There's only one bit of "wub" in it, and it lasts all of 1 second. (it's a transitional sound)

Even so, if you don't like the song that's fine. To each their own. Still, I think you may actually like JXL's music. Especially if you like that Tron Legacy remix album. Take a listen:

I really like Metroid Metal and the Harmony of a Hunter tracks.
And the 101% Run of HOAH just came out and it's pretty awesome.
This one's one of my favorites.

That's the song. Please understand that why I don't like that song is because it has a great buildup and it sounds pretty fantastic up until the bass drop around 2:05 where it then stops dead and becomes an assault on the ears. I liked the momentum, the increasing pace that the buildup had, and the feeling of my heart racing then BAM! Dropped. It felt like I had a heart attack the first time I heard that. The tympanic assault goes on for about a minute and then you get the same buildup then after that it's the same assault at the 4:13 mark 'till the end. To me the pacing of those two parts just doesn't mesh well. I don't mind wubs as long as it sounds good. I do mind when the song feels misleading by having a nice Trance-esque buildup then it breaks the flow by having a Bass Drop and an ear-assault composed of random elements. That is what we describe as good music.exe has stopped working: when it pulls you in with a damn good buildup, then proceeds to assault your ears.

Now I listened to every track you posted and I agree, his other stuff is good. Damn good. It's got a consistent pace, rhythm, and each track sounds pretty distinctive. The changes in their paces are there, but are considerably less jarring than in the DKR track. The best part is they don't sound like a typical brostep song. If anything I'm a bit more disappointed because this is not the work of a talentless hack, but someone with genuine talent that really just dropped the ball. Then again, the place where most disappointment lies is when the someone does their best and still comes up short.

You... you like Kavinsky? :D Finally someone that knows who Kavinsky is!!!!!

There is only one remix I like better than the original (admittedly I haven't been exposed to many) and its Sebastian's remix of Kavinsky's Testarossa Autodrive.

The remix just feels harder and more forceful if that makes any sense. Its a song that would get me pumped or make me do 90 m/ph in a 25 residential zone.

Don't have any horrible ones to share though.

Well, the last song I heard a remix of would be 'Follow me' by Patoh pooh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Plhgyp0KNQQ
The original sounds fine up until Adam Tensta starts his verse, then the song turns into Patoh's last name.

This remix gives the song the energy that the lyrics call for and matches up the tune to Tensta's speed.

I haven't heard a bad remix in a while though.

"Space Jam is a delicious spice that can be added to anything".

Seriously, I fucking love space jam remixes.

Also, anything combining Rap and J-pop/anime music is win.

I would have to say the Illud Divinum Insanus remix album because the original album was absolutely horrible, it was somehow improved by making it dubstep everywhere.
I am also quite a big fan of Isosine for mashing up songs that shouldn't go together but somehow do.
Was going to post Slam of the Northstar as that is my alarm but it appears someone beat me to it.

Ladies and gentlemen...
...Please remain clothed.
[sub](Well, I suppose it depends on how you define a remix. But I always love an excuse to post this song.)[/sub]
As for worst, I'm not sure. I haven't really heard many remixes that I thought were bad.

I can appreciate that. Not liking the jarring transition, I mean. It was unsettling to me at first too. That is, until I understood why Tom Holkenborg (JXL) and Hans Zimmer did it that way. (also, I should clarify my earlier response: I was under the impression you hadn't liked the song simply because it was "bro-step" like. regardless, my apologies for confronting you on it.)

It was representative of the build up in the film. The idea of things, at face value, seeming "pleasant". However, underneath, you have something sinister building. Building until it "snaps".

The song is certainly not their best work. And, I feel the beat and tempo structure of the song, in a bro-step fashion, was chosen to appeal to todays modern audience. Even so, it's easily one of the least "bro-step-y" bro-step songs I've ever heard. As I had said before, there's hardly even any "wub" in it.

Still, I get why you wouldn't like it. I don't think less of anyone that doesn't.

On a side note, I'm glad you liked those other tracks. You should look up more by him. (I'd google his discography first. Youtube can be...a tad inconsistent.)

He's released a decent number of albums over the years, but most of his work has entailed remixes, film soundtracks, commercial tunes, video game soundtracks, etc. Like that song from Saints Row the 3rd I posted earlier or this one:
